Chapter 1 A price

Resilience and unmatched mysteries, mysteries that are shallow and deadly... Mysteries that depict love in the most impossible of ways.

--------

I am Anastasia Fisher and I've been a loner nearly all my life, one would think that that has ever stopped me from moving on but never.

I moved to New York ever since my parents died, I was left broken since then, I was thrown out of the house by my greedy uncle. People that my parents had entrusted me into their hands. It's funny right? When your insurance becomes your enemy.

My uncle took my parents' company and I was left on the street. I moved to New York from California about three years back... I decided to start working as a waitress at Lilian's cafe in order to earn money to take care of my self. Lilian's cafe is owned by a very lovely lady and her husband Greg. Lilian and Greg provided help to me when I just moved to New York, they are the best thing that ever happened to me ever since my parents died, they gave me a place to stay. Lilian and her husband, Greg have been a very great support system to me.

I lived in a small apartment which they rented to me when they brought me here.

They refused to collect rent but I insisted they did otherwise I could not accept their help. I think I've already been a burden to them and the last thing I want is to keep being a burden to the people that helped me without even knowing me.

I will forever be grateful to them for what they did for me, because they helped me in building up my business, I have always loved fashion designing so I decided to go into the business fully, after I saved money for four years working for Lilian and taking on some mini jobs, I applied for a place at a fashion school and I was accepted. After years I finished, I became a known fashion designer here in New York. At first I thought my work will not be accepted but Lilian built that confidence in me that I am very good at what I do , her motherly love got me through some of the darkest point in my life and I am so grateful to her for that.

But what I never expected was that this motherly love would come at a price, one that was way too expensive.

~~~~~~
As usual, I woke up to the budging sound of my alarm. I groaned in irritation as I buried my head into my pillow. Deciding to finally get up, I rushed to the toilet to brush my teeth and have a nice bath. After washing up, I stopped to stare at the mirror.
I frowned when I saw the bags under my eyes. My Amber eyes always reminded me of my parents. I decided to just push everything back and move forward. I can't let myself mourn every single day.
I put on my pants and top before proceeding to wear my blazer and putting on my heels... ...I checked the time and saw that it was already 6:30am so I quickly rushed down the silver coated stairs. I live in a penthouse alone, but I love it, sounds weird but that's me. It has always been my dream home, I decided to make a quick breakfast before leaving my house. I got in my black Audi and drove off to Lilian's cafe. It's been a few days since I last saw her so I'd like to see her before going in to work. Lilian's cafe is just a few blocks away from my apartment so I got there under five minutes.
The cafe is a small but cozy space, our customers love the cozy aura it gives. It's interior might be cheap and simple but none of that matters to them. When I got my first huge pay, I insisted on getting the cafe redesigned but Greg and Lilian politely declined. They explained to me that the cafe's homey aura was what made it unique. It was a place where both the rich, poor and middle class could come and just be humans who want some caffeine and sweets. I went into the kitchen. I saw Lilian in the kitchen making breakfast, scrambled eggs and coffee.
"Good morning Lilian!" I greeted cheerfully before moving around to hug her.
