Chapter 1 The real Nellie

Nelly's POV

It was a new week and the first day at my new working place. I just secured a job as a delivery girl in an outstanding company, the pays are encouraging so I fit in quickly. I can't afford to lose this job for anything because I have longed and waited for days like this to come when I will go out and fetch more money to assist my Grandma.

She has been the only living soul on earth that cares about me even at her age. She is gradually losing her energy to work and I don't want to be a burden to her that much. She has tried saving my life from dying of starvation and now it's time for me to make her feel all right.

''What a fuck!!'' I screamed as I stared at the wall clock.

I only have one hour left for work. I quickly jerked up from bed and got into the bathroom. Within a few minutes, I'm already dressed up for work.

I was clad in trousers which were the best wear, a pair of sneakers, and a blouse to match. That was what I could afford for myself then.

I wasn't the type that goes to parties and outings so I care less about expensive wear. I wasn't more into fashion nor did I care for hairstyles and make-up.

I tied my long-loose hair in a pony style and glanced at the mirror that says I look beautiful. I smiled at myself, picked up my back bag, and walked outta the room.

"Good morning Grandma,'' I greeted with a load of smile written all over my face.

"Good morning my princess," she replied, looking so concentrated on dishing the meal.

She must have prepared it, specifically for her granddaughter. But, I will be disappointing her in this case because I'm already running late for work.

I walked to her back and gave her a warm kiss on her cheek.

"You look serious in serving breakfast for us, "I said, walking to her front just to make her comment on my wear.

"Yes, my Queen."

"I woke up early to make you breakfast as the only special way I could celebrate your new job."

Her smiles were unique, as little dimples display on the side of her cheek.

"You look different and beautiful today," she added softly and I blush red.

She must have just admired me all this time.

"Awwn Ma' Hillary!!''

Ma' Hillary is Grandma's name. She is my only living family in the whole wide world that has stood by me ever since I grew up. She fought a great fight like a biological mother to me and she is doing it all because she had no family as well apart from me.

" I'm sorry Ma' Hillary. I will not be tasting these meals this morning but promising to eat to my satisfaction whenever I am back. I don't wanna lose my early job to someone else 'cause of late coming,'' I said in a rush as her demeanor changed.

I know she wasn't expecting that from me but I felt sorry for disappointing her as well.

She nodded in agreement and gave me a peck on my cheek which made me chuckle.

"Make sure you take good care of yourself. And don't forget, always be careful out there!!''

I nodded to her advice and walked out.

~Creamy and Juicy Delivery Company

"Good morning Miss Nelly....''

"Nelly Henson, sir," I added.

He must have forgotten my name so quickly probably because I'm new to his company.

"Thank you," he said and smiled widely.

His smiles were broad and attractive, making him more handsome than I imagined.

''I must have gotten a nice boss like Mr.Franklin. I had already heard a lot about him and how he treats all his staff equally with care. That's a nice attitude from him.'' I thought inwardly.

"Hope you will be able to get along with the work?'' he asked harmlessly, staring at my face.

"I will sir. Trust me,'' I replied firmly.

" If you say so, congratulations,'' I added with a handshake which I gladly accepted.

"So get started. Your work should be perfect and make sure you remember to handle all customers with maximum respect,'' he said and I nodded.

No CEO will trade his or her customer for a penny. That is why grandma tells me to always put on a good attitude wherever I find myself.

Grandma is such a great teacher.

How I wish I lived to receive such lectures from my biological parents as well.

"You will be assigned to run on a different delivery today. Go get yourself dressed up,'' he said, pointing to some special wear on a blue bike parked outside the building.

I know it's not easy for a girl to be called a delivery girl, but to hell with whatever people will say about me.

I walked to it, then went into the lady's room to change my clothes.

After a few minutes, I walked out in protective wear. I look so happy in my new job even though I know I have much to do after this shift.

"Hey, Miss Nelly. "

I had another voice from behind, looking in the direction. It was another man who was clad in expensive wear. He looks rich and different from other workers I have met.

"Hey,'' I replied sluggishly.

"I am Mr. Cello.'' He paused and walked closer.

''The distributor manager of this company," he added with a smile on his face.

"Nice to meet you, Nelly,'' he said and passed his hand for a handshake which I gladly accepted.

He wasn't looking bad either.

He handed the already packaged goods into my hands.

''Hope you know how it's run?'' He asked.

I nodded.

Mr.Franklin has taught ethics and how to go on the delivery.

I grabbed the packages and zoomed with my bike.

I got back late from the delivery assignment. Walking straight into the accounting office, made the report for the day, and walked out.

My phone pinged, and I checked on it.

It was my time alert. It's almost time for my shift at the Restaurant.

'' I have to be there in the next thirty minutes else Mrs.Colin will have the blame recorded in her diary.''I thought inwardly and rushed out.

Speaking on how I grew up becoming a workaholic. My name is Nelly Henson. I am 19 years of age and reside in the United States of America.

I am a talented songwriter, singer, and guitarist. I had many written songs in my possession but it seems all of them go against me each time I remember how hard it is to get to the top and be recognized as a superstar.

I know it hurts but that doesn't stop me from pushing forward because I have an old woman to impress and some people out the street like me to encourage.

Grandma on the other hand is the only woman bearing the cross with me ever since I lost my dad to a fatal car accident. It wasn't easy for a widower like her to take care of a teenager on my fourteen still date and you expect me not to be reasonable.

I lost my mom far back when I was ten to an ailment grandma didn't want to tell me about and since then, I never set my eyes on my parents again, only grandma by my side.

It is a sad history in my life and that of grandma. But, she is happily living with her granddaughter now and I am already loving her with my life as well.

Grandma is truly a definition of a great mother anyone could dream of having. I know I have no dream apart from becoming a great superstar in life and with that, making my dad's dream come through.

I have nothing to worry about in the course of apathy, grandma doesn't encourage laziness and I don't seem to tolerate backing off as well.

She has taught me many ways to write lyrics and also taught me how to play the guitar.

She was dad's music director at home. She did teach him simple lyrics and showed him the best ways to play the guitar like a pro.

My phone pinged again. But this time around it's my bestie calling. I ignored it cause I know she is gonna yell at me about why I wanted a punishable file from Mrs.Colin.

Damn it...

I doubled my speed this time around. Within seconds, I was already in the Restaurant.

Immediately I stepped inside the restaurant, Ellie was already waiting for me by the entrance.

"Girlfriend!"

"You almost let me lose it today. I don't want Mrs.Colin to yell at you as usual," Ellie said in her pitying voice.

I chuckled at her facial expressions. She must have been worried about me all day.

''I love you bestie,'' I whispered to her ears with a smile.

'Damn it...!!'' she grumbled.

Ellie is my bestie and a girl of Twenty. She is fair in complexion, sexy and charming but what differentiates both of us was that she was already more exposed than I am. She is also good at singing but what makes her different from mine is that she dances perfectly well.

She has always been the only one apart from my grandma who means so much to me. Even though we are orphans, we both took ourselves as sisters.

'' Aww," I blushed red.

"What's awww?" She asked as I chuckled at her.

We are used to each other so I know how to get on her knees.

"Where is Mrs.Colin?" I asked, looking at the busy restaurant filled with customers left and right. I did have a lot of work to do today.

"Inside her office." I heard her voice reply in a vanishing tone as I walked to the lady's room to change my clothes.

God knows I don't play with my duty. I attended to different people in the restaurant perfectly fine and the day was closing gradually.

"I have planned to pack in with you to stay and I know you will be extremely happy to accept me, right?" Ellie asked with a smile and it seems unbelievable to believe.

That has been one of the wishes I had in mind. I know my family doesn't have much to offer her but I know one of these days we can start from somewhere and get to a better height.

"Yes, I am already welcoming you into my humble abode," I answered and she smiled out her dimple.

Time ran faster than we thought. We changed up and sat up on her bike as we rode back home.

Immediately we step into the house, grandma has been waiting for me to return.

"Good evening Grandma" We both greeted each other as we rushed into her arms.

Grandma is a caring type and a typical example of a hospitalized woman. She cares for the less privileged even though she doesn't have enough for it.

Grandma and Ellie have been on good terms so grandma already knows she will be moving in with me today.

"Grandma, make sure you have your rest."

"Yes, have your rest while Ellie and I go prepare for dinner, "I said to grandma who left for the living room

I helped Ellie with her luggage and we went into my small room.

"You and grandma look happy and...''

" Shhh,'' I cut her speech off, placing my finger on her lips.

"Go get yourself freshen up while I dish dinner for us.''

She nodded reluctantly.

Before I came out of the kitchen, Ellie and Grandma were already staring at the Tv show wholeheartedly.

What are they staring at?

"Ellie why can't you just help me out?'' I asked, waiting for a positive action but all I could see on her face was a smile.

They seem so obsessed with the program on the Tv.

"And what program is that?"

"Or is it...?"I tried asking, still concentrating on the dining table.

" Hey Ellie, come on. Answer me!'' I yelled.

"They're the Teens. I mean Azher Teens'' she screamed, standing up from her seat.
