Chapter 1 PROLOUGE

PROLOGUE

It was a bright and lively Saturday morning in Serville, Spain. People were going about their business and travelers were checking into the hotel. Hotel Estrella is one of the biggest hotels in the city. It had fifty-eight floors and was well secured. It was a hotel where the rich and influential, the one percent of the one percent go for meetings or to lodge.

A van sat by the parking lot of the hotel, four people were inside the van, two men and two women. One of the women was clad in a black dress, her auburn hair tied neatly in a bun, her lips smeared with red lipstick, she wore large square-shaped shades, that hid her eyes. The other woman was clad in a white t-shirt, black leather jacket, and black jean pants, her hair was short, her lips had red lipstick but not as pronounced as the other woman in a black dress, her eyes were accentuated with mascara, she was pretty. She was with a laptop and was typing into it, her face serious, her eyes searching for something.

The first man was in a plain white shirt and had spiky blonde hair, he was in the driver's seat tapping his fingers on the steering, while the other man was hunched over the woman with a laptop. He was tall, masculine, and quite handsome.

"Alicia, por que tarda tanto?" [Alicia, what's taking so long?] the woman in the black dress inquired.

"Their security system is complicated, I have been able to hack the first fifty floors, but he is in none of the rooms, I am still trying to hack the last eight floors," Alicia replied, her eyes still on the laptop.

The woman in a black dress looked at her wristwatch. "How much time do we have left?"

"About an hour," the husky man replied.

"This is not my first job and it's not going to be the last, I don't want any mistakes. You were supposed to be in his room in person before he leaves for that conference, the plan was to terminate him before then."

"Alright, I'm in," Alicia said.

"Finally," said the husky guy.

"He is already getting dressed for the conference we need to be quick," Alicia said and handed the woman in black the laptop. "Alright, Arturo let's get ready." Alicia patted the husky guy's shoulder and they moved to the backseat.

Arturo took out a sports bag, unzipped it quickly, took out a red dress, and handed it over to Alicia who had already stripped to her underwear. She donned the red dress, and he tossed her a wig she caught it mid-air and wore it immediately, Arturo put on the tailored suit, looking sexier and his muscles bulged out. Alicia winked at him and he smiled at her.

The woman in a black dress removed her dark shades, her eyes were pretty, and she stared closely at the screen of the laptop. "Did you hack these CCTVs?"

"Yes, Red," Alicia answered from the back of the van, applying some makeup. "Give me a heads-up."

"Nikolai de La Cruz, forty-nine years old Italian wine baron from Palermo. Has a family of three, an Amish wife, and two daughters. He is here on a secret conference to meet the Rodriguezs over the importation of wine to Spain, he was a partner to Dominguez but decided to two-time. He is here with a few guards because he is keeping his profile low. As I said you are his slut, you came with your guard because you feel insecure around businessmen. He won't let Arturo in, he would stand by the door in case anything goes wrong, make sure you copy everything from his laptop. I trust you on this."

"We won't disappoint, Red."

Red turned to them. "Remember, no mistakes, show no weakness."

"Aye, ma!" Arturo said.

The duo opened the car, and Arturo jumped out, but Alicia glanced back at Red. "Wish me luck."

"Don't use your real names, remember that. I will be communicating with you here," Red said and wore her dark shades again.

Alicia smiled lopsidedly and went out of the van. Arturo angled his arm and she slid her arm into his and they walked towards the entrance of the hotel. Red watched them from the car as they entered, she relaxed back on the seat, folded her arms across her chest, and placed her head on the headrest. Her phone went off and she took it from her side and smiled when she saw the name on the screen. "Mi amor," [My love] she said once she answered the phone.

"Mi chica mala," [My bad girl] a deep masculine voice called from the other end.

"Have you arrived in Malaysia?"

"Just got here. Have you terminated the bastard yet?"

"On it."

"I trust in you, I want it clean and well done ."

"Has this girl ever disappointed you before?"

"Mi chica mala, [My bad girl] I trust you. Just do one thing for me, please don't fight with Sofia."

Red rolled her eyes. "That little imp, She is not my business, as long as she stays out of my own way."

"Alright, Red, just wanted to inform you that I got here already. I will be waiting for positive results," The man at the other end said. "Adios." [Goodbye]

"Adios, mi amor." [Goodbye, my love]

She ended the call and looked at the man in the driver's seat. "Salvatore, how long until they are done?"

"Fifteen minutes," the man replied.

She relaxed back and closed her eyes to take a little nap until they come out. Fifteen minutes later, Arturo and Alicia came out of the hotel and started towards the car. Red kept her head on the headrest, her eyes were closed and she didn't see the truck that was coming in full speed towards their car, nor did the driver noticed. When the truck got closer, she heard the sound opened her eyes quickly, and looked out of the window, her eyes widened as she saw the truck that was coming toward them. But it was too late to do anything. The truck ran into the van, sending it up in the air, the van somersaulted twice and came to a stop with the tires up.

Arturo and Alicia stopped in their tracks, their eyes wide with horror and their jaw dropped, as they watched the van tumble with its tires now facing up.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.
