Who will be the prince's choice? Chapter 1 First chapter

Hortavie was thinking about the conversation she had a few days earlier with her best friend Roxane..

"The news of the day is that the prince will soon return to the country to look for his wife" she had told her with a smile on her lips.

"Ah! that's good, it looks at him" had answered Hortavie by squinting.

"Hum! What is this answer? I expected you to gloat".

"Gloating because?" she had retorted while being surprised.

"No, but it's been years since you've been a single mother! It's time for you to think about having a man by your side and you must also think about Mimie! Poor thing, she deserves to have a father around. Yes, Daniel hurt you, but let me tell you that not all men are like him" Roxane had answered, her hand caressing her best friend's cheek.

"Sorry, I beg you, spare me this conversation! I already said that the men and me it is finished and that is going to remain so until my death " had she answered by scolding Roxane.

These two people have been best friends for almost five years now. They met in the first grade when they were 18 and 17 yeavrs old respectively. Roxane was a somewhat socially upwardly mobile girl, but that social class meant nothing to her. She didn't care about it, that's why she chose to go to a public high school and not a private one dedicated only to rich kids. She was sociable and accepted everyone without exception. Money, or rather social status, was not a barrier for her. At that time, she lived with her parents: Papa Ebenezer and Mama Mado. She was an only child, but that didn't bother her because she considered her best friend Hortavie, whom she had met at the beginning of the year, as her best friend and her little sister at the same time. Hortavie was kind of the opposite of Roxane. She came from a poor family that only had the necessities to survive and not a superfluous for secondary needs. Otherwise, she was a very calm and composed girl, especially happy because at that time she was dating Daniel, her first love. The two of them had met in the third grade, so they had been together for three years. Hortavie was so in love with him. She couldn't stop talking about him and swearing by him until she got pregnant in her senior year, which was when she turned 18 and her family kicked her out of the house. In fact, she was sad, but what made it worse was what happened next. She had packed her bags to move in with Daniel who lived alone, but he refused and even told her that he didn't know she was serious about the pregnancy and that he wasn't ready to take on the child. Hortavie sat outside her door and cried her eyes out. She had imagined that everyone could ignore her, but not Daniel anyway, but, he had done so to the point of calling her a girl not serious. She had no choice but to call her best friend Roxane who came to pick her up by car.

"Oh, my darling, I'm here, don't cry anymore" she whispered to her while holding her arm to help her get up.

"I had imagined everything Roxie (short for Roxane), everything but this! What have I done to Daniel? What did I do to Daniel? Roxie, a three-year relationship where everything always went well. Daniel swore that he loved me to bits and that he would make me his wife and the mother of his children. Now that I'm pregnant with his child, he rejects me. Roxie, please tell me I'm dreaming!

Hortavie was crying so hard she was in pain. Snot was dripping from her nostrils to the point of entering her mouth. Her eyes had turned red and pale. She was shaking all over and couldn't even walk properly.

"Calm down first, honey, okay? Get in the car and let me handle this with him.

She sat in the car and Roxane put her luggage in the back seat, then went to knock on Daniel's door. Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Open the door, you irresponsible person! So it's like that now? You asshole! Let me tell you that your ending will be shit, you idiot! You dare to break my friend's heart? The one with whom you spent the most beautiful moments of your life? The one who is carrying your child? No, but men are fucking unbelievable!

Daniel was lying in his room, fiddling with his phone as if nothing had happened. He could hear what Roxane was saying, but he didn't care. After spending over ten minutes knocking and blaming him while Hortavie cried in the car, Roxane decided to let it go since she knew he wasn't going to open the door. She went to start the car and left with her friend.

"Don't cry anymore, my dear.

Let it go, it will pass! I know how you feel, because I too experienced a disappointment that almost cost me my life, but today when I think back, it makes me laugh. I am very happy now and you will be too, so stay calm, okay?

Hortavie did not have the strength to open her mouth to say anything. She only expressed herself through tears.

"We'll go to the house, right? I'm going to make the guest room nice, because it will now be inhabited by a pregnant woman, ikiiiii (wow). Wait, do you even know that you're going to bring a beautiful baby into the world? I'm already happy at the thought of him calling me auntie," Romane said again with a smile.

Hortavie may have been crying, but Roxane knew how to find the right words to make her smile... She smiled, but she didn't say anything.

"That's it, I like it when you smile like that!

It was 2am when the two young women arrived at the house.

"Paa Ebenezer and maa Mado are already sleeping, I'm sure!"

"Yes yes Hortavie, that's the reason why we have to get your luggage in quietly".

"Okay!"

They put the luggage in the guest room or rather the future room of Hortavie and her baby and went to Roxane's room.

"I know that if I leave you alone, you'll cry even more. Oh yes, I'm telling you that I've been there myself"!

Hortavie burst into tears again and she took refuge in Roxane's arms.

"Thank you for everything Roxie, you are the best!

"No, you are the best here because you are now two and not one. Haha"!

Even Hortavie burst out laughing even though she had tears in her eyes. The two girls slept until morning and it was the noise when the parents knocked on the door that woke them up.

"Roxane, your father and I are leaving for work!

"And it's eight o'clock, so you better get up so you don't miss your language class.

Roxane was the first to get up and opened the door. That's when Hortavie got up too.

"Hello mom and dad (stretching and yawning). Ah, I'm going to do the classes afterwards only, because today is going to be a bit of a busy day. Look!"

She opened the door wide and they looked over and saw Hortavie sitting on the bed, looking pale.

"Good morning daddy Ebenezer, good morning mommy Mado!" she said shyly.

The parents were not surprised to see her there since they knew that the two were best friends and often called them "the twins" and that they shared almost everything together. But what intrigued them was the look on Hortavie's face.

"Yes, hello. Hortavie, why are you making that face, daughter?" the mother asked with a worried look.

Hortavie felt her bones crush and her heart break into a thousand pieces, then she collapsed to the ground and burst into tears. Roxane went to pick her up and take her in her arms. The parents entered the room.

"What's going on?" asked the head of the family.

She wanted to answer, but she couldn't, so Roxane spoke up for her.

"In fact she's pregnant and her parents kicked her out of the house and what's even worse is that Daniel refused to assume the paternity and kicked her out".

The father and mother looked at each other. They were taken aback!

"What? it's not possible!" said the mother before going to hug Hortavie and the father did the same.

So all three were hugging her at the same time, while comforting her.

"Don't worry, you know you are welcome here!" said the father.

"Besides that's true! You don't have to worry, Hortavie, you know that we all love you here and that you have added a touch of happiness to the family, because Roxane has learned a lot from you. Look, for example, since she met you she has become good at math, because she learns from you. If you are rejected, it is because you have not understood life, my little one. This is your home and you know it...

"Thank you very much!" replied Hortavie, very touched by their generosity.

"You're welcome my best friend, it's normal! Well, mom and dad can go to work, I'll take care of her until you get back so you can help me.

Everyone laughed, even Hortavie. The parents left and Roxane stayed behind to arrange the guest room as planned while her best friend was in her own room, digesting her disappointments.

Yes, it was this story that made Hortavie decide never to be in a relationship again for fear of being disappointed a second time.

She had decided to be a father and a mother at the same time for her daughter, Mimie, who was now 3 years old.

To be continued.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

One Night With My Billionaire Boss

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.

I Slapped My Fiancé-Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
