Chapter 1 A Dinner and a movie

Chapter One

Huh... That was a great movie Clarence, don't you think? asked Jenny, to which he squeezed his face and replied with a casual wave of the hand to signal that it was just about great but not exceptional.

Sitting awkwardly behind Jeremy was Matt trying to conceal his anger, he had only come to see this movie because Lauren had agreed to come along as well, he didn't quite enjoy the company of this bunch and had only got to meet them through Lauren. For him, most of them didn't meet up to his standards.

He was from a wealthy family, had more exposure than most of them and had an aura around him that smelled snob.

He didn't quite find the movie interesting, it was a political movie and he loathed politics. This loathing was like a transfer of the hatred he felt for his dad, who happened to have made a name in the political hemisphere.

What's the time now, anyone? My phone is dead, asked Jenny, to which Jeremy had replied 8:00pm.

Wow, I have to hurry... He said, won't you stick around for dinner? asked Lauren, to which Matt replied with a nod from side to side to indicate a no. Lauren was downcast, but didn't let it show. She had picked and planned this evening just to impress Matt.

She felt he would love the movie giving it was about politics, which of course his family were well known and respected for, and the Chinese diner's because of his love for Chinese food.

After the movie they had all agreed to have dinner at the Chinese diner's. Although Matt loved Chinese food, he passed up, made up an excuse and left in his White corvette.

The quadruple continued to the diners in Clarence's car, the diner's wasn't far away from the cinema, only about 6km.

All the while in the vehicle jenny talked about aspects of the movie relatable to the current political situations in their country, she was an avid follower and considered herself a liberal.

Jenny had flaxen blond hair, bright blue eyes and high cheeks that always seemed to flush.

She had what you'd refer to as the sprinters body, slim waist line and hips, straight legs and looked in perfect shape. She wasn't into jewellery but always had a necklace which had been passed on to her by her mom. She loved clothes though and on this particular evening had on a red jacket and a stylishly made and fitting evening gown.

They arrived at the diner's in a little over eight minutes. They all got down and walked into the diner's.

It was one of the best in the city and had a thorough Chinese feel to it. They had beautiful lanterns and door couplets and some great Chinese artwork and designs,

Their food was also superb.

They sat down on the bamboo themed chairs and placed orders, Clarence had the Stir Fried Tofu with Rice, Jenny had chow mein, Jeremy chose dumplings and Lauren had Zhajiangmian.

After the meal, they talked about general aspects concerning their life and their jobs.

Jeremy told about a current situation he was having with one of his fellow employees, the employee in question was a subordinate and had no respect for authority. He was always coming in late and never delivered on projects untill the deadline.

He spoke to his superiors concerning this and the said employee was suspended. Since the suspension, Jeremy has been receiving mysterious calls threatening his life.

"Have you reported these calls to the police?" Asked Jenny, with worry all over her face.

To which Jeremy replied "I don't intend to, I want to confront him first about it and then scare him with the threat of reporting to the police. That ought to stop any further calls.

Clarence who was more rational advised he reported to the police and avoid confrontation since that may raise the tensions between them further or worse, escalate the threats.

The women and in particular Jenny agreed with Clarence but they all knew that once Jeremy had made a decision, there was no changing his mind.

After the meal they all left the restaurant but left a tip for the waiter who had served them, she was really nice.

It was already past 9pm when they got into Clarence's car and he dropped them off at their residences before he started heading home, first Jeremy and Jenny who had just moved in together(they were in love and had just started dating) and then Lauren at her beautiful apartment in the suburbs.
