Mary Jenkinson, a girl born from an illegitimate relationship struggles to find her father who is a mystery. Meanwhile, Ellena, her mother, is increasingly enjoying the free life she lived in France after being pulled out of home by her late parents. Inheriting most of the Jenkinson family's wealth made Mary take advantage of the circumstances to pressure her mother to uncover the truth about the father. However, Ellena, who only returns home occasionally to their quarters in the city of Egham, remains keeping the secret. The temperamental nature of Ellena triggered quarrel after quarrel that dominated each of their encounters. Meanwhile, to expand the business network, Rudolf Hill, the younger brother of her late grandfather arranged an arranged marriage between Mary and Aaric Fox. A popular man, a former fashion magazine model in New York who now runs his family's business empire as well as the chairman of a foundation on Mary's campus. Aaric's aggressive attitude of deliberately bringing Mary to a party and immediately stating to the mass media that Mary was his future wife before the girl knew about the arranged arranged marriage, made Mary even more submissive to the man who was far away from her. It turned out that Mary had been coveting him secretly for so many years. The presence of Brad Braxter, Aaric's half-brother who wants to resolve past grudges is a Parasitic Bedbugs that creeps in the narrow crevices, sucking and laughable not to play in the relationship between the two lovebirds. The man's woes culminated when he learned Mary was going to the city of Bath alone. The opportunity he used to annoy Aaric with 'little' threat. No doubt Aaric panicked so he spurred his car in the middle of the night towards the city. Unluckily, his car ran out of gas in the empty land of Salisbury. The circumstances forced him to run across wheat fields and sheep farms and rest at the mythical Stonehenge. Can he find Mary?

Chapter 1 He Is Aaric Fox

Robin birds peck insects on the branches of plum trees, dropping a few petioles among the clumps of daffodils coiled underneath. One of the stalks fell on top of the famous classic comic of French origin in the lap of a girl sitting on a long bench. The campus is located on the left, while the right is the publishing company. Separated by a park roughly the same width as a quarter of the length of a football field, the two buildings are part of the famous Fox Group.

Several times the girl arched a smile accompanied by a blush on the face. She looked cool, unsettled by the winter wind that flew a few strands of her hair. Maybe it's because she likes the comics on her lap so much.

The bang of a woman's slender and blond shoes distracted the girl for a moment. The girl stared intently, like reflecting on a grain of dew. The blonde woman stopped right at the door of the room that became the center of all activities in the company. The room was inhabited by a single man who had modeled for a fashion magazine as a teenager and became the most successful young entrepreneur in Europe when he was in the middle of thirty years old. Aaric Fox, his name.

Immediately one of the two door leaves connecting the room from the outside world immediately opened, hitting the wall until it shook. The girl in the park was aghast as if awakened from her sleep at four o'clock.

"Solve this! Revision in ten minutes!" snapped Aaric as he slammed the pile of files in front of the woman. It caused a noise that grabbed the attention of the employees who passed around him. Some of them whispered, some others walked quickly away wisely.

Aaric Fox turned around and was swallowed by a carved door similar to the lace decoration typical of the gothic style that used to be popular in medieval times. The girl immediately got up with a frown. She helped the woman reassemble the scattered files.

"No need to bother, Miss. I'm used to it," said the woman with the names of Ashley William on her chest. The fast tone of speech indicates that she is always in a race with time.

"It doesn't matter. Instead of me just waiting for the driver to pick up," the girl replied. Her two ration lips formed a smile.

"It's really good for you, Miss Mary Rose." Ashley returned the smile while rubbing the sweat on her forehead.

Mary just responded with a smile. She moved nimbly to collect the papers. Her face was furious every time she found a dirty sheet. It seems that she is good at empathizing with the distress of others.

"I made a fatal mistake. That's why Mr. Fox snapped. It's not usually like that," Ashley continued. There was a strange vibration at the end of each sentence.

Mary laughed revealing a row of white teeth. Then, "What do you say, Mrs. William? Every day I wait for the driver in the park and every day I see Mr. Fox angry with you. Tell that to the media of the time, I don't need to."

Ashley smiled stiffly, like being caught stealing a broomstick. In the next second her laughter blared, although her face still looked tense.

"Mrs. William, it seems that you will have trouble. Look at this!" exclaimed Mary as she grabbed a piece of paper floating in a pond decorated with andesite rocks.

The wind kept the pool water moving until Mary had trouble picking up the paper. The starving fish thought the white thing was fine dining. The further the paper is out of Mary's reach. Just as the girl was about to pick up a dry branch as an extension of her hand, she was aghast to find Aaric Fox already standing behind her.

"My job is already messed up and you're adding to the problem by dropping important reports into the pool, Miss? So, you're a hero of the fun for my secretary. I see?" Aaric's slur made the girl stammer.

Mary was torn. A snare of panic radiated clearly on her face. Her mouth opened to say something before she returned to silence as Aaric said again, "Show your responsibility by retype the report and give it to me tomorrow. I have been very generous to give you that much time."

The man's blue eyes flashed into Mary's face, as if a lion saw a deer. The tip of Aaric's lips is slightly pulled upwards, odd. Mary cast her gaze on the wet grass, avoiding the tall man's gaze. Moments later she accepted Aaric Fox's order.

"Ashley, what's my schedule after this?" asked Aaric as he passed arrogantly leaving Mary. Ashley, who had been silent, was shaken following the long steps of her superiors. She mentioned some of the activities that the man responded to in a small nod. The two people disappeared at the end of the corridor leading to the parking lot.

Mary was glued while pressing her chest. In her eyes was a look of hope as well as restlessness. Staring at the wet paper she smiled sweetly, as if she had lost all the burden.

With a light step, Mary approached the driver in the campus court. The middle-aged man was talking to the security guard before noticing the presence of his young lady. Soon he rushed to open the door of a black limo parked not far from them.

"Mrs. Ellena Jenkinson has been waiting for you at a salon not far from here, Miss," said Tommy, the driver, as Mary was already sitting in the backseat.

The girl flinched. Throw her face away from the man who has worked for her family almost twenty times this winter. Her eyes were pus staring at the court of the campus that was arm-length accompanied by clashing teeth. Tommy focused on driving, entering the traffic crowd of London.

"What am I fulfilling that invitation for, Tommy?" said Mary looking at him from the rearview mirror.

The man glanced also through the rearview mirror before saying, "For parents, children are pride, Miss. The child is a part of the parent himself. I imagined that my son would one day oppose me. I don't know how I have to go through my life if that happens."

"But me and your son are different, Tommy!" argued Mary visibly upset by the remarks tending to defend the mother thrown by the old man.

"Both of your child's parents are whole and pour him out with affection, as for me? I never even knew who my father was. The man who made me born from a sixteen-year-old teenager and my mother, what kind of woman who doesn't even have the slightest maternal nature. I'm a wasted biological child more than a stepdaughter. This dinner invitation is nothing more than to trick me into getting into the trap," Mary added.

Flames flashed in her eyes. Her marble face flushed perfectly. Mary took off the knit jacket she was wearing and threw carelessly at the empty passenger seat on the side. It was as if with the jacket she was throwing anger.

"Someone must have a reason for every decision he chooses, Miss. Mrs. Ellena just didn't say it." Tommy's expression did not change. He remained focused on splitting the streets, alert to the traffic signs that mushroomed in the city.

Mary leaned her head roughly on the car seat wrapped in a soft brown velvet cloth. She closed her eyes, let out a long sigh. The sunlight infiltrating through the car glass that fell on her pointed nose did not dilute the tension on the girl's face.

"Finally we arrived after waiting in the salon for hours. I'll show you how good I feel, Mary," Ellena boasted as they entered an Italian-style restaurant.

"You spent my money on unnecessary things. Haven't you been deterred, Mom? Grandpa has kicked you out without a penny of inheritance. You should be sorry and no longer in front of men," Mary said softly in between their steps.

Ellena burst into listening to her daughter's words until the other visitors turned to them. It seems that he really likes to attract the attention of many people.

"My lover has rented a private room for us, Baby. You are so lucky because soon he will be your father," Ellena said in a slightly harsh tone. However, her gaze intimidated Mary Rose. With heavy steps the girl followed her mother up the wide stairs. Around them the well-dressed servants walked downstream homecoming.

They entered a room located on a spacious balcony, there were only three chairs with tables decorated with vibrant colored flowers. One of the chairs has been occupied by a man wearing a famous model suit even though it seems to contrast with his fat body. The man immediately stood up looking at the two. His hair was clear with some gray hair that began to grow. Ellena introduces Antony Smith to Mary.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Smith," Mary said as she shook hands with him. Ellena nudged the girl's arm.

"Call him daddy, Lof," she said excitedly to laughter by Antony.

"You have a beautiful daughter, Honey. No wonder you don't want to lose prestige to her," Antony said.

The man's gaze walked down Ellena's luxurious looking body wearing a black evening dress embroidered with crystal beads. Her earrings glittered in the light from the candles in the corners of the room. It was a stark contrast to Mary who was wearing only a pink brocade mini dress.

"She inherited all of that from me. Actually when you praise my daughter you're praising me too, Darling," Ellena said. She unceasingly flashed a smile in front of the man.

Ellena and Antony then chatted intimately regardless of Mary's whereabouts. With a sour face the girl cast a look at the violinist standing in the middle of the room, playing Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On. The musician was swept away in the imagination until she ignored the strands of hair draped on her face.

The shadow of a butterfly-clad servant stepping towards them robbed Mary of her attention. The waiter served Bruschetta, a typical Italian appetizer, without the formalities of choosing a menu, without giving her a choice. Mary's jaw instantly hardened. She looked intently at Ellena and Antony in turn.

"Antony waited too long for us, Baby. So, I asked him to choose a menu for us. At first he refused everything before asking you first. But, I said you'll always agree with whatever my decision is. Including for a while Antony will stay in our house," explained Ellena while rubbing her lover's chest. Ellena had understand the meaning of Mary's gaze.

Mary got up instantly. Then, "I expected it. Sorry, Mr. Smith. I have an appointment and have to leave immediately."

The girl walked out of the room. Her hands squeezed the hem of the dress until it tangled. Her footsteps were longer than usual. When she was about to pass through the door, she was surprisingly grabbed by her shoulders violently. Mary's reflexes turned around, instantly a hand landed roughly on the cheeks, leaving a red mark.

"You're a shame, Mary," Ellena hissed. Her eyes widened. The butterfly-eared waiter had time to look at them before finally entering the kitchen door across the room while muttering incoherently.

"A slap is too cheap for my establishment, Mother. Embarrassing you said? Didn't give me a chance to choose a menu and agree to Antony staying at my house at will. Why can't you be me? Grandpa gave me the house. Your rights are limited to guests. Never forget that, Mom!" said Mary with a sarcastic smile. Her lower lip trembled.

Hearing her daughter Ellena's courage gripped Mary's arm firmly. A raging cobra-like hiss escaped her mouth.

"Listen to me, Mary. You're banging yourself against an iron wall by constantly asking who your father is. You will destroy yourself. This is the fifth time and it will be the last time you refuse my marriage," she whispered furiously in the girl's ear. The smile she had just seen in front of Antony had gone out of nowhere.

"Being destroyed for the sake of getting what you want is better than doing something in vain by forcing me to agree to your marriage, Mom," Mary said instantly releasing Ellena's grip.

She ran the farthest distance. Mary waved her gaze, perhaps wishing that no other guests in the place had witnessed their embarrassing quarrel. She immediately rushed towards the turnstile. While Ellena was sculpting on the spot while massaging the temples. The wide-eyed woman then turned around. In a split second a smile again adorned her face, as if the hand had done nothing and the tongue did not move in the slightest.

On the ground floor of the luxury restaurant, the bang of shoes accompanied by tears falling from Mary's netra. She stroked her blushing cheeks, the slap marks just now. A soft moan escaped from her tightly pursed lips.

"I have no other way, Mom. I don't have any. Sorry...."

Refusing her mother to marry, this is already the fifth time.

"Why can I be so vile? I have no other way to get mom to reveal who my father is, other than that way. The slap was not only felt on my cheek, but deep in my dark heart immeasurably anyone," Mary said silently.

After passing through the door downstairs of the restaurant, Mary walked down the terrace in a hurry. Suddenly a man's sturdy body bumped into her, making Mary stagger violently to the floor. As a result, Mary's heel was broken due to her weight. Fresh blood flowed from Mary's heels.

"Are you Ok?" The man asked as he helped Mary to her feet.

Reflexes, Mary looked up. She wanted to know which fool walked without paying attention to such a surroundings until it hit a girl. Suddenly time seemed to stop when Mary found the blue eyes right in front of her. Mary quickly lowered her head, not wanting to drift into any feelings. Mary doesn't expect the events to happen, meeting Aaric Fox in bad shape.

"Yes, I'm okay, Mr. Fox," Mary said as she took off the heels and then immediately got up and walked towards the car while holding the soreness in the heel. Mary didn't look at Aaric and no matter how many people noticed her bloody bare feet.

After getting in the car, Mary glanced at Aaric who was still fixated on looking at her. Mary's heart rippled.

"Two people hurt me on the same day in the same place, an event I hope never to happen again in the following nights of my life. And Aaric, he has met me twice today."

Mary spoke to herself.
