It took only day to change Katherine's life forever. Just a day to change everything she has ever believed in. Learning to fit in with creatures of night and surviving being hunted is nothing she imagined would ever happen to her. What happens when a simple girl is put in the midst of bloodsuckers?!
CHAPTER 1
"It's so windy today, I think it's going to rain heavily soon" Aunt Linda, sighed, taking a sip of her hot chocolate.
She has always been my role model, she has been more than a blessing to me ever since I lost my parents in a mysterious accident.
"It better not rain..!" I frowned.
"I have to get to the library to finish up my project"
Aunt Linda laughed and took another sip from her mug. She walked over to the couch and sat comfortably.
"Book worm" she teased.
"Whatever" I rolled my eyes.
Book worm.. wouldn't be the first time I've been called that.
Katherine William, the book worm!
I have been a reserved and quiet girl ever since I lost my parents. The whole thing shook me to the extent that I never talked to anyone, excluding my aunt.
Now I'm in my final year in high school and even more reserved than before.
The nerd of the school!
The wind got stronger, I knew I had to leave immediately if I wanted to make it to the library without being drenched in the rain.
"Aunt, I best be leaving now.. If it's starts to rain, I'll remain in the library until it stops" I said. Aunt Linda didn't look too comfortable with the idea, but my project is due tomorrow so she has no choice.
"Alright fine. You may but if anything goes wrong, please call me" she said and I nodded, picking up my bag back from the couch.
"No worries aunt, I'll be fine and I'll check in constantly" I assured, heading to the door.
My aunt has always been protective and worried about me. She fears I might end up dying mysteriously like my parents. I fear the same but I have to get things done.
I got on my bike and left for the library. It sure was windy, very windy. I could barely open my eyes to see where I was going but luckily, there aren't many people in the street today.
That's totally normal. Ours is a quiet street, with everyone minding his own business. Some refer to it as the "dead street" and I couldn't agree more.
I arrived at the library and thankfully, it hasn't started raining yet. I went straight to get some chemistry textbooks and started on my project.
It wasn't long before it got really chilly in the library. I could swear I felt a presence. I looked around and that was when I noticed that I was alone in here. I took a deep breath and faced my books. But I still couldn't shake the feeling.
Forget it..
Ignore it..
There's no such things as ghosts..
I continued to chant in my mind but honestly, I didn't feel safe. I looked around and gasped when I saw a figure pass by. I swallowed the lump in my throat.
The cold had disappeared and I was now sweating profusely.
"Who's there?" I asked in a shaky tone, glued to my chair.
"Look, if this is a prank you better quit because I'm not falling for it" I said again but was answered by the echo of my own voice.
I waited patiently to see if I would see the figure again but instead my phone rang loudly, making me jerk frightfully.
"Hello honey" my aunt's voice came. I heaved a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat on my forehead.
"Hi aunt"
"Are you coming home yet? Please come home. I don't feel so good" she said, sounding really worried.
"Okay aunt, I'm weirded out here already" I answered and hung up.
I quickly carried my bag back and took the textbooks to return them to the librarian but it seemed like the more steps I took, the more freaked out I became.
My heart thumped heavily and I sensed danger. I walked faster, over to the counter.
"Ma'am?" I called but there was no reply. She was bending over on her desk, she seemed to be asleep.
"Ma'am I want to submit the books" I said and again there was no reply. I looked around once more, there was no one in here but I still felt a strange presence.
"I'll just leave this here and get going" I said, dropping the books on the table but one of them fell off. I bent down to pick it up and saw blood underneath the table. I gasped and slowly raised my head.
"Ma'am" I called, feeling very scared.
I decided to touch her. I stretched out my hand and poked her but she fell over with a loud thud.
My eyes widened in shock when I saw the lifeless, pale looking body. She looked like all her blood was sucked right out of her. I placed my hand over my mouth to stop me from screaming but tears ran down my cheeks.
Oh my God!
Oh no!!!
I screamed in my head. I was suddenly glued to the ground, unable to move a single muscle.
I heard a loud noise coming from the back, it sounded like a growl from a monster. I gasped and quickly ran for the door.
I pulled on the door handle violently but it didn't open and the growls were getting louder and closer. I began to cry as my mind went all over the place.
Am I going to die?
Is this how I'm going to die?
Trying to open the door was unsuccessful, I looked up and saw a couple of blood shot eyes looking down at me. I trembled, I could only cry and sweat. My phone continued to ring but I couldn't answer it.
The monster growled at me before dragging me up by the neck. I squealed and struggled to get free but it was pointless because he was way stronger than me.
His eyes were red as blood, piercing the innermost part of my soul. His teeth were sharp, his canines a bit pronounced. His body, was covered in deep black fur..
What is this monster??
I was still struggling when it roared violently at me and I slowly lost consciousness.
DYLONIA
"Where is your brother?" Father asked, frowning. He looked intensely at me as if searching for the truth in my eyes.
"He could be in one of his wild parties" I answered but that wasn't the truth. Victor had made me swear to cover for him.. He was thirsty and needed to quench it urgently.
"Dregan!" Father yelled my name and got up from his throne, he was in front of me in a fraction of a second. For a thousand year old vampire, he sure was in great shape.
"You had better be telling me the truth. You know how dangerous your brother's thirst for blood can be, I don't want him to go off and expose the secret we've kept for years" he warned.
My brother turns into a violent red eyed monster anytime he wants to feed and severally, he almost revealed to humans who we really are but I'm always there to save his butt.
"Don't worry father. I will go and search for him" I assured and left.
I went to his room but he wasn't there yet, I became worried. I tried to connect with him telepathically but he wasn't answering me. So I decided to track him.
I tracked him down to our college, yes college.
We might be vampires but we take our education seriously. Especially since some of us end up working with humans in real companies. Or in the companies we have over here in Dylonia.
"Victor.." I called.
"In here Dregan" he answered, leading me into one of the dorm rooms.
"Father is looking everywhere for you" I informed.
"Dregan, I have a big problem, I really messed up and I don't know how to fix it" he said, looking really tensed. I furrowed my brows at him and he scratched his head.
"What did you do?"
"I went out to feed, as usual. I had finished satisfying myself when I saw a girl but I was already filled. She saw me, I couldn't let her go so..." He paused and looked at me with guilt.
"So.. what?" I asked.
"I brought her here with me" he confessed and I freaked out.
"You did what?? Victor!" I screamed but he hushed me.
"I couldn't take her home, father will definitely punish me so I brought her here instead. I do not know what to do" he said apologetically and I groaned. I wanted to skin him alive for dragging me into all this but he's my brother and I have to help him.
"Okay, where is the girl?" I asked, placing my hands on my waist.
"This way"
He led me into the inner chamber where a human girl was lying on the bed. I went closer and a gasp escaped my lips.
"Wow" I mouthed.
She has got to be the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
She was very fair, her skin was smooth and flawless. The waves of her black hair rested effortlessly on her beautiful face. Her lips were so red and inviting, I could only imagine what it felt like to kiss them.
"She's beautiful isn't she?" Victor snapped me out from my thoughts and I sighed.
"But Victor, what do we do now?" I asked, staring at the pretty girl.
"I don't know.."
"Let's just wait until she wakes up. For now, I will go and talk to the dean, she'll know what to do" I suggested.
Dean Edeline was the definition of perfection. She was beautiful and graceful and she was my mother's best friend.
She was a human at first, but was turned into a vampire when the dark bloods attacked more on that later.
"I'll come with you" Victor said and we left the room together.
As soon as we were outside, we got stares from the girls as usual.
Dylonia college was established by my father but is now managed by Edeline. We Victor and I happen to be the most popular, richest and most good looking men in the college.
We were both well established, we were billionaires managing our own companies but father insisted that we get a diploma.
Girls seem to crowd around us everywhere we go and Victor seems to enjoy the attention but I don't. I've never really cared about girls.
"Marry me Dregan! I love you"
"Victor.. I want just a night as your slave!!"
"Omg! He's so hot!"
I scoffed, ignoring them and walking towards the dean's office. I wonder if humans behave this obnoxious. Do they drool as much as these female vampires?
"The ladies love me" Victor bragged.
"You know, I could leave you to handle this all by yourself. We have a lot on our hands and all you can think of are girls?" I asked in annoyance.
"I'm sorry bro, please don't let me handle this on my own" he pleaded. I ignored him and went straight to the dean's office.
"Dregan, Victor.. what brings you here. I thought you were off school for the weekend?" She asked, offering us seats.
"Aunt Edeline, we have a huge problem" Victor stated.
"Yeah, that he caused" I added.
"What is it?"
"Please promise you won't tell our father" I said.
"I give you my word" she answered.
"There's a human in the college" I confessed and she looked shocked.
"Human??" She queried.
Victor and I looked at each other and sighed simultaneously.
"Tell me everything" aunt Edeline requested.
NEW ORLEANS.
I wept bitterly when I found out that my precious niece has gone missing. Only her bag back was discovered in the library alongside the body of the librarian.
I was so scared.. I didn't have anyone to run to now. I could only pray that she was safe wherever she was.
But what if the killer got her too?
This is the same thing that happened to Katherine's parents when she was just 4 years old. Up on till now, they are nowhere to be found.
That night was dark, stormy and cold. My sister and her husband urgently needed to get to the airport for a business trip. Little Katherine was placed in my care.
It was barely up to an hour that my sister and her husband left for the airport when we heard that their was a terrible accident on the particular road they took. Fear gripped me and I panicked.
I had to carry little Katherine to the morgue where the bodies were deposited but my sister and her husband's bodies were nowhere to be found. Every other person had a strange mark on their necks.. It looked like two piercings and no one could fathom how it came about.
Several years passed and still no news was heard about the missing couple. That was how I ended up raising Katherine on my own.
I got married once, but it didn't work out because my ex husband disliked Katherine, there was nothing I could do.
"I can't believe you're gone too" I cried bitterly, holding a picture of Katherine close to my chest.
Where do I even begin to look for her now? The worst part is, the police investigating the matter couldn't find any traces apart from her bag and phone which were lying by the library door.
The librarian was also found dead, with the same two piercings on her neck.. many fear vampires but we all know that's impossible.
My Katherine!!
DYLONIA.
"Ugggh" I rubbed my forehead vigorously and struggled to open my eyes. I had a very painful headache and could barely move my head.
I slowly moved on the bed... Taking in and feeling the softness. I have never been so comfortable in my life. My own bed isn't this soft, infact I get backaches every morning.
Wait a minute.
If this isn't my bed, then where am I?
I jerked from the bed and my eyes threw open as I observed the environment.
Where the heck am I?
The room was dim and had only a cupboard in it. The colour was a mild grey colour, it had only a small window and a door facing me.
"How did I get here? What happened?" I asked. I rubbed my head again and suddenly the events at the library came back to me.
The red eyed monster!!!
Am I dead?
Is this heaven?
The door that was facing me gently squeaked open and I moved closer to the wall in fear, curling up with myself.
The footsteps followed, andba beautiful lady in a red suit entered. She looked rich and elegant, her hair packed in a tight bun. She had a gentle smile on her pretty face.
"Hi dear" she spoke. Her voice was as beautiful as her.
"Come on in boys!" She yelled and two guys entered with their gazes fixed to the floor.
They looked up at me and..
Holy sh*t!!!
They are demi gods!!
Omg how can someone be this good looking?
"Hi" the one with dark hair greeted. He was the hottest.
But I didn't say anything to them. I was still pretty darn scared.
"I'm sorry for bringing you here, I just panicked" the blond guy said. I remained quiet and still.
"You don't have to be scared dear. You have been brought here to protect the vampire secret" the lady in red said and my eyes widened. I couldn't help but giggle.
"What play is this? You better take me home!" I yelled.
"It's not a joke. I am dean Edeline. This is Dregan and Victor. We are vampires and you're in our realm"
I stared blankly at them.
