DIVORCED BY THE CEO, MARRIED TO HIS RIVAL She gave him her heart. He gave her divorce papers. Now, she's about to become the one woman he can never have again. For years, she stood beside her husband, believing that love would be enough to survive his coldness, his endless ambition, and the secrets hidden behind his powerful CEO title. But she was wrong. The man she called her husband discarded her as though she had never mattered. With a signature on a divorce paper, he shattered her dreams and left her with nothing but a broken heart and a promise to never let anyone hurt her again. What he never expected was for her to rise from the ashes. Determined to rebuild her life, she makes an unexpected alliance with the one man her ex-husband despises most-his ruthless business rival. He is wealthy, dangerously charming, and known for destroying anyone who stands in his way. To the world, he is a man who never loses. To her, he is the last person she should ever trust. Then he makes her an offer she never imagined. Marriage. A marriage that could give her the power, protection, and revenge she desperately needs. She accepts, believing their union is nothing more than a deal. But behind his calculating smile lies a secret that could change everything. When her ex-husband discovers that the woman he threw away now wears his greatest rival's wedding ring, regret turns into obsession. Suddenly, the man who once couldn't wait to get rid of her wants her back at any cost. But she is no longer the woman who begged for his love. Caught between a past that refuses to let her go and a new husband whose intentions remain a mystery, she must decide whether to guard her heart or risk falling in love again. He divorced her thinking she was worthless. His rival married her knowing she was priceless. But what happens when revenge begins to feel like love-and the man she married for a deal becomes the only man she cannot afford to lose?
The pen hovered over the paper, trembling between my fingers.
"Sign it, Elena. We both know this is what you want."
I looked up at the man I had loved for seven years. Alexander Sterling-billionaire CEO of Sterling Enterprises, my husband, and now a stranger determined to erase me from his life.
His gray eyes held no emotion as he pushed the divorce papers across his mahogany desk.
What I wanted was to scream. To demand how the man who once promised to love me forever could discard me so easily.
Most of all, I wanted him to look at me the way he used to, before money and ambition turned our marriage into an empty shell.
"You promised me," I whispered. "On our wedding day, you promised you would never let me go."
Alexander leaned back in his leather chair.
"People make promises they can't keep. It's called being human."
"Human?" I rose abruptly. "You haven't been human in years, Alexander. You're a machine, and apparently, I've become useless to you."
Something flickered across his face before disappearing.
"Don't make this harder than it needs to be. You'll receive a generous settlement. The apartment in Paris, the beach house in Malibu, and enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life."
"Do you honestly think money can compensate for seven years of my life?"
"Your lawyers can negotiate the details."
I stared at him, unable to believe the cruelty of his words.
"This marriage has been over for years, Elena," he continued.
The words hurt because a part of me feared he was right.
But five days ago, I had discovered something that explained his sudden desire for a divorce.
His affair.
I pulled out my phone and showed him the photographs.
Alexander froze. In the picture, his arm was wrapped around Clara Westbrook's waist, her lips pressed against his jaw outside an exclusive hotel.
The timestamp read two nights ago.
Two nights ago, when he had told me he was working late.
"I can explain," he said.
"Then explain how your business meetings require you to kiss another woman."
"It's not what you think."
"Then what is it?"
Silence.
Clara was his new business partner, a beautiful woman who had appeared in his life six months earlier. She was intelligent, charming, and seemingly devoted to Alexander's success.
Whenever we met, however, her polite smile carried a subtle message: she believed I was an obstacle.
I had mistaken her friendliness for harmlessness.
"Don't you dare make this my fault," I said, fighting back tears. "I sacrificed my career, my friendships, and pieces of myself to stand beside you. I supported you when Sterling Enterprises was struggling."
"I never asked you to give up your life for me."
His response stole my breath.
Perhaps he hadn't asked, but he had accepted every sacrifice without hesitation.
I grabbed the pen and signed the papers.
"There. You're free."
I threw the pen onto his desk.
"Go marry Clara. I hope she gives you everything you deserve."
I turned toward the door.
"Elena, wait."
I stopped without looking back.
"I never meant to hurt you," he said quietly.
A tear slid down my cheek.
"You know what the worst part is? I still love you. Even after everything, I still love you. And that makes me the biggest fool in the world."
I walked out before he could answer.
---
The elevator doors closed, and I leaned against the mirrored wall, tears streaming down my face.
Seven years of my life, gone.
When I reached the lobby, a security guard looked at me with concern.
"Mrs. Sterling, are you all right?"
I couldn't answer.
I hurried outside, desperate to escape the building that had witnessed the destruction of my marriage.
I made it three steps before colliding with a solid chest.
Strong hands caught my arms.
"Careful."
I looked up and found myself staring into striking silver-gray eyes.
The stranger was tall, impeccably dressed in a black suit, with sharp cheekbones and a dangerously confident expression. Behind him, a black luxury car waited at the curb.
"I'm sorry," I muttered.
"Mrs. Sterling," he said smoothly. "We finally meet."
I frowned. "Do I know you?"
A slow smile spread across his face.
"Not yet. But you will."
He handed me a black business card.
DAMIAN BLACKWOOD
CEO, BLACKWOOD INDUSTRIES
My breath caught.
Damian Blackwood. Alexander Sterling's greatest rival. The one man powerful enough to challenge Sterling Enterprises and ambitious enough to want its downfall.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"I heard about your divorce."
"Congratulations. The entire city will probably know by morning."
"I'm not here to celebrate your pain."
"Then why are you here? To use me against my ex-husband?"
"I'm here to make you an offer."
I laughed bitterly. "I've had enough offers from powerful men to last a lifetime."
"Mine is different."
He stepped closer.
"You want to rebuild your life, Elena. And perhaps you want Alexander to regret what he's done."
"I don't want revenge."
"Then why are your hands shaking?"
I glanced down. He was right.
I was furious, humiliated, and heartbroken. Beneath the pain, however, was a growing desire to prove that Alexander hadn't destroyed me.
Damian seemed to recognize it.
"Marry me."
For a moment, I thought I had heard him incorrectly.
"What?"
"Marry me, and I'll give you the power to stand on your own feet. You'll have access to opportunities Alexander never wanted you to have. Together, we can make him understand what it means to underestimate someone."
"You're insane. I signed my divorce papers less than ten minutes ago."
"Then you have nothing holding you back."
"You want to use me."
"Perhaps." He didn't pretend otherwise. "I've spent years watching Alexander Sterling build his empire. I'd enjoy seeing him lose the one thing he believes he can control."
"And what do you gain from marrying me?"
His smile faded.
"That's a question I'll answer when you're ready to hear the truth."
Something about his calmness unsettled me. He looked less like a man proposing marriage and more like someone moving a piece across a chessboard.
"Why me? You could marry anyone."
"Because I know who you are, Elena. Alexander may have forgotten the woman he married, but I haven't."
A chill ran through me.
"How do you know so much about me?"
"Let's just say your name has come up in conversations you know nothing about."
He opened the car door.
"One dinner. Hear me out before you decide."
I looked back at Sterling Tower, imagining Alexander celebrating his freedom with Clara.
I had spent seven years making his happiness my responsibility.
I was done.
"What if I refuse to be anyone's weapon?" I asked.
Damian smiled.
"Then I'll have to convince you that you don't need to be one."
"Dinner?" he asked, extending his hand.
I hesitated, then climbed into the car.
---
Meanwhile, inside Alexander's office...
Alexander stood at the window, watching Damian's black car disappear into the evening traffic.
He had watched Elena leave with his greatest rival, and the sight left an unfamiliar bitterness in his chest.
His phone vibrated.
Clara: Darling, is everything all right? I've been thinking about you.
Alexander replied that everything was fine, never suspecting that the woman he trusted was preparing to destroy him.
Across the city, Clara smiled at the confidential Sterling Enterprises documents spread across her bed.
Soon, Alexander would lose his company, his reputation, and everything he had spent years building.
She didn't love him. She wanted his empire, and her affair with him was merely part of a carefully calculated plan.
But there was one problem.
Elena had left Sterling Tower in Damian Blackwood's car.
Clara's smile vanished. Damian was the one man capable of ruining everything she had worked so hard to arrange.
She picked up her phone and called an unfamiliar number.
"There's been a change of plans," she whispered. "Find out why Elena Sterling is meeting Damian Blackwood. I want to know everything."
She ended the call, her expression turning cold.
Alexander thought he had chosen his future.
He had no idea he was walking straight into her trap.
