"Luce, I know you've been acting differently this past month. Look at me, darling, don't avoid me anymore." I stood on tiptoe and wrapped my arms around his neck. My lips pressed against his thin lips. For a moment, Lucien froze, but he finally returned my kiss. He pressed his lips against mine. His hands held me tightly. Suddenly, he jerked away and pulled back. He immediately shoved me, causing me to stagger two steps before finally falling. "What's happened over the past month is a mistake. Don't you dare repeat this dirty game! You act like a whore!" - Married, affectionate in public but strangers behind the scenes. That was Lucien and Serena's marriage. Serena stayed because of her debt of gratitude to Lucien's grandfather and her deep love for him. Until finally, Camille, Lucien's beloved ex-girlfriend, returned. Serena didn't want to be pushed further to the sidelines. She chose to walk away. She eventually divorced Lucien even though he opposed it. That's when the tables turned. Lucien began chasing after her, realizing that Serena was the one who ruled his heart. Unfortunately, it was already too late.
Serena
"Hey Luce, want to make love tonight?"
Wearing nothing but sheer lingerie that exposed my breasts, I approached him with a seductive look on my face.
My voice trembled slightly.
I hoped Lucien wouldn't notice.
My heart was racing erratically. My hands were sweaty; I squeezed the side of my lingerie.
Lucien stood frozen in the doorway. His dark eyes stared at my cleavage and my vagina, which was covered only by a tiny pair of panties. His Adam's apple bobbed up and down.
After standing in front of him, I tried to wrap my arms around his neck, but Lucien immediately pushed me away and took a step back.
"What the hell are you doing?" he asked in a heavy tone.
I swallowed hard. "This afternoon, in front of our client, we were already acting like a loving husband and wife-why don't we continue that at home?" I gave a small laugh to hide my nervousness.
"Ser, I told you from the start that our affection is only for public consumption. Don't ever expect more!" he hissed, staring at my lips.
"Yeah, I remember. But that was your one-sided agreement. I've always taken this marriage seriously-just as Grandpa hoped," I whispered, running my hand over his chest.
Lucien closed his eyes. He seemed to hold his breath.
His eyes opened and looked even darker. "Enough, Ser! If it weren't for Grandpa's ridiculous condition, I would never have married you."
My heart twinged, a pain I once again masked with a smile.
It was hard.
My chest began to feel tight.
"Luce, I know you've been acting differently this past month. Look at me, darling, don't avoid me anymore."
I stood on tiptoe and wrapped my arms around his neck. My lips met his thin lips.
You act like a whore!" he snapped, pointing at my face while I was still sprawled on the floor.
I shook my head slowly. My lips trembled. My chest felt increasingly constricted. It felt as if a slab of concrete were crushing it. Tears began to fall.
After glaring at me as if to reinforce his warning, he strode off toward his room. He slammed his door shut so hard that the vibration reached my ears.
I burst into tears.
I felt worthless.
Disgraced.
I was his wife, yet I felt too repulsive for him to even touch.
It had been three years like this.
I should have known better.
Why was I so foolish, offering myself to him?
I thought he had changed, even though he had already started showing signs of reverting to his old ways.
Lucien was Lucien.
A rock.
He would never change.
My crying wouldn't stop. Not wanting him to see me in such a pitiful state, I decided to go into my room.
My legs couldn't support my body. Lucien's rejection and humiliation had shattered me, both physically and mentally.
I crawled into my room. The floor was wet with my tears, which kept streaming down my face.

The next day, I was back in professional mode. No more tears, even though my eyes were still a little puffy.
I walked over to Lucien's office. As his personal assistant, I intended to invite him to lunch with our client from Norway.
"How does it feel to know your true love is back?"
I stopped in my tracks and immediately slipped behind the wall next to the large door that wasn't closed tightly. I pricked up my ears to catch the conversation that pierced my heart.
That was Daniel's voice-Lucien's cousin and best friend. He was also the Marketing Director at Hubert Group, who'd always felt threatened by my presence.
"I don't know." Lucien's voice sounded uncertain.
"Has she contacted you?" Daniel asked again.
"Yes, a week ago."
My eyes widened. So this was why Lucien had grown distant toward me again.
Camille was back.
"Have you two met?" Daniel was still curious.
"Yes..." Lucien replied softly.
"And?" Daniel pressed again.
"She's still the same as before. I don't know, Daniel. Stop asking so many questions!" Lucien protested.
Daniel laughed loudly as if it were the best joke of the century.
"Luce, you've already taken over as CEO after marrying Serena. Grandpa won't demand anything else from you. I don't think it's a problem if you go back to Camille."
Daniel tossed out that crazy idea casually. He burst out laughing again.
"You really think so?" Lucien asked.
"Of course, Luce. You love Camille so much. Just let Serena be your wife and Camille be your mistress. Just for now, until the situation improves."
Daniel continued with his outlandish advice.
"Or just divorce Serena. I'd be happy to take her in." Daniel's laughter echoed again.
"You talk too much! Get back to work!" Lucien snapped.
I heard the sound of his chair scraping across the floor. I immediately ran to the bathroom.
Once inside, I slumped down behind the door.
What if Lucien followed Daniel's advice?
I didn't want Lucien to cheat on me.
Even without Camille around, I'd already been pushed to the sidelines-let alone if they got back together.
It looked like I had to back off.
I had to divorce Lucien.
