In their three years of marriage, she had never witnessed him so frantic. The cause seemed unmistakably tied to Guerra Group's recent mergers and acquisitions, a topic she had just caught wind of on financial news channels. With clasped hands, Lysander Thorne fervently prayed for Josiah Guerra and his company's triumph. Yet, just as she settled into a moment of respite, her phone shattered the silence. "Dr. Thorne, we need you at the hospital immediately. There's a pregnant woman in dire condition." Still reeling from the recent shock outside the operating room, Lysander now observed the bloodstains adorning Josiah's once pristine white shirt, the disheveled fabric, and the conspicuous stains on his sleeves. Turning away, she retreated to her seat and inquired with composure, "Have you attended to her?"

His Beloved Ex-Wife Chapter 1 Like Two Different People
"Lysander, Lysander..."
In her ear was his slightly deep and hoarse voice, gentle and a hint of clinging.
After getting married for three years, Lysander Thorne was still of the opinion that Josiah Guerra was an entirely different being when in bed.
On ordinary days, Josiah was considerate and gentle, a true gentleman. But when it came to their intimate moments at night, Lysander always felt like she couldn't keep up with his stamina.
By the time it was all over, she was so sore that she couldn't even lift her arms.
And then, he grasped her arm again.
Lysander couldn't even open her eyes. She pleaded and acted coyly, "Don't you think we should stop? We both have to work tomorrow."
She was currently preparing for a job evaluation, busy to the point of exhaustion. After finishing her report in the early hours of the morning, she was dragged into a "workout" by him. At this moment, she felt like a fish out of water, so tired that she could only pant.
Josiah chuckled softly. "What are you thinking about?"
She blushed slightly. "What do you..."
His large, knuckled hands gripped her shoulder blades, his fingers gently pressing on her sore spots.
With his strong grip and great precision, a comforting sensation spread through her limbs, causing her to involuntarily let out a soft moan.
"Feels good, doesn't it?"
His voice sounded in her ear, deep and hoarse, as gentle as ever. Lysander couldn't help but blush.
As an OBGYN, she actually knew more about this kind of thing than the average person.
Unfortunately, she was only big on the theory side of things. When it came to handling the real thing, she considered herself a novice.
Fortunately, Josiah was a gentleman, and they wouldn't spend all their time clinging to each other like some other newlyweds, but they still treated each other with respect.
In fact, Lysander was very open-minded. After all, they only met through a blind date and did not go through the process of dating before entering into marriage. It was actually quite fortunate that they got along the way they did now.
"Now try moving. Do you feel better?"
Lysander tried to move her shoulder, and after his massage, it did feel much better.
"Thank you. I feel much better." She turned around. "When did you learn to give massages?"
"I learned it from an old traditional medicine practitioner before. It's been so many years, but luckily I haven't forgotten."
He gently tucked her hand under the blanket and instructed, "Go to sleep."
What is a happy marriage like? There's no definite answer to that question.
Sometimes, Lysander felt a little regretful that she didn't get to experience a passionate love relationship in her youth because she was so focused on her studies and work.
But she was content. Whether in terms of family background, appearance, character, or knowledge, Josiah was almost a perfect marriage partner.
He was not a smoker, not an alcoholic, and didn't have to socialize much. Every time he finished work, he would come home to spend time with her.
Even her bestie, Daphne Everhart, who always had a bad impression of men, said Josiah was the epitome of a perfect man.
Thus, Lysander felt very content with this husband of hers.
Especially now that she was pregnant.
Lysander gently stroked her belly and whispered, "Josiah, it's your birthday next weekend, and I have a birthday gift for you."
Suddenly, Josiah's phone vibrated. He picked it up, and his face suddenly changed.
Lysander asked, "What's wrong?"
Josiah stood up. "I have something urgent to attend to. I need to go out for a bit."
"Is it something related to the company?"
"Um… yeah." His voice was weak but soon was filled with urgency. "I have to go now."

His Beloved Ex-Wife Chapter 2 Too Keen of a Sixth Sense
Lynn was rather taken aback. "Dr. Thorne, I didn't expect you to know the patient's husband."
Lysander took a long, deep stare at the familiar face in front of her. There were hints of bewilderment, surprise, unease, but most of all—concern for the woman inside.
Although he seemed to be doing a good job restraining himself, he couldn't hide the look of distress and urgency on his face.
"Are you her..." Lysander glanced into the operating room, "husband?"
Lynn interjected, "Yes, that's him. He's the one who signed the surgery consent form."
Lysander felt a chill all over her body. Her face didn't look too good either. "I see."
Josiah gritted his teeth. "Lysander, I'll explain this to you later."
Lysander forced herself to calm down, maintaining her professionalism as a doctor. She then took a deep breath and said, "Don't worry, the surgery was successful. Both the mother and child are safe. They will need to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation and IV fluids to maintain the pregnancy. If everything goes well, they can be discharged this weekend."
Josiah was visibly relieved. "That's great."
After a pause, he added, "Lysander, thank you for your hard work."
"It's nothing. Regardless of whose wife she is, as a doctor, I will do my best to treat her."
Lysander returned to her office, drank a glass of cold water, and took a while to calm down.
After about ten minutes, there was a knock on the office door.
She heard his voice outside saying, "Lysander, it's me."
Lysander stood up and went to get the door.
Josiah looked better than before, but his eyes were still red, and the furrows between his eyebrows had not completely disappeared.
She just noticed now that there were bloodstains on Josiah's white shirt, the clothes were wrinkled, and there were large water stains on the cuffs.
There were two possibilities: either he got amniotic fluid on him when he carried that woman to the hospital, or it was from her tears just now in the ward.
She turned around and returned to her seat, asking lightly, "Have you visited her?"
Josiah nodded slowly. "Yes, she's asleep."
"She..."
Josiah said, "The child is not mine."
Lysander suddenly felt relieved, and she sat back in her seat as if all her strength had left her.
"She got into a car accident and was found in critical condition. I was the one who brought her to the hospital. Later, I received a notification that surgery was needed, but the surgery consent form could only be signed by a family member, so I..."
Lysander came to a realization. "I asked my assistant to get the family member's consent."
"I know now," Josiah said. "There were too many people, and it was not convenient for me to explain this to you at the door of the operating room. If others knew that I was not her husband, no one would be able to sign for her, so saving her life was the priority."
Lysander got the full gist of it, and she felt a little guilty. Silly me. How could Josiah, such a gentle and steadfast person, possibly have an affair?
He must have come across the car accident on his way to the company and couldn't bear to see the pregnant woman in distress, so he hurriedly brought her to the hospital.

His Beloved Ex-Wife Chapter 3 Too Close to Each Other
Should I be surprised?
In all honesty, it wasn't really unexpected.
Even though she and Josiah didn't date each other before getting married, they had been together for almost three years, so she felt like she knew him quite well.
Josiah was a kind person, not like the arrogant CEOs portrayed in novels and TV dramas who could intimidate one with just a single word.
On the contrary, he was elegant in his demeanor, considerate in his speech, and meticulous in his actions. He was a gentle and mature man.
A woman who could make him lose his composure must be someone extraordinary.
She was almost prepared for an emotional reunion filled with memories of the past, but reality turned out to be quite different from her expectations.
When she returned to the old house, there was indeed a pregnant woman present.
However, the pregnant woman was seated with her mother-in-law, Susan McKay, while Josiah was seated alone on a single couch next to them. When he saw her return, he quickly stood up as usual, took her coat and bag from her hands, and said, "Let me hang these up for you."
Susan warmly welcomed her back. "You're back, Lysander. Hurry up and take a seat."
Lysander greeted Susan and then glanced at the pregnant woman beside her. "And she is..."
Susan smiled and said, "Let me introduce you. This is Lysanne, the daughter of our neighbor, Mr. Thorne, next door. She and her husband have been living abroad and just returned recently. Lysanne, this is Josiah's wife, as I mentioned to you earlier."
The pregnant woman smiled and slowly stood up, holding her belly. "Nice to meet you, my name is Lysanne."
Lysander was taken aback. "What did you say your name is?"
"What a coincidence. I'm Lysanne. Our names sound rather similar, don't they?"
Susan nodded in agreement. "Yes, what a coincidence indeed. I was pretty surprised when Josiah got married. Perhaps Josiah is destined to have a connection with people whose names start with Lysan. One was his best friend since childhood, and the other was his wife."
Lysanne said, "Yes, how wonderful. You may not know this yet, Madam Susan, but Dr. Thorne was the one who performed surgery on me."
Susan was even more surprised now. "Really?"
"Yes." Lysanne reached out her hand to Lysander, seeking a handshake. "I haven't thanked you for saving me and my child yet. If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't be standing here safe and sound."
Lysanne was frank and straightforward, so Lysander saw no reason to be afraid of her. She shook hands with her confidently. "No need to be so polite, it's my duty. Your situation seemed dangerous, but it wasn't a big deal. Once you rest for a few days post-surgery, everything will be fine, but you still need to be careful afterward."
"Thank you, Dr. Thorne. I will remember that."
The servants gradually set the table with food, and Susan invited everyone to eat together.
Josiah was modest and not fond of extravagance. Since turning thirty-one wasn't a milestone birthday, he didn't have a grand celebration. Instead, he prepared a feast at home and gathered with his family for a meal.
Lysander had always been a woman of few words. At the dinner table, it was mostly Susan and Lysanne chatting about daily life, and she listened on the side, more or less understanding some parts of it.
Beside the old residence lived a family surnamed Thorne. The two families had been neighbors for decades. Lysanne and Josiah were born in the same year, with Lysanne being a few months younger. They were classmates from elementary school to high school, and they didn't part ways until college.
Josiah studied management at the top local university, while Lysanne went abroad to study law.
In Susan's words, "Lysanne and Josiah are so close they could finish each other's sentences."
Lysander's mother-in-law, Susan, was a cultured individual, having written and published her own books, and she spoke eloquently. Her words subtly suggested that Josiah and Lysanne shared a platonic bond, not a romantic one.
