He had got up to prepare for the journey but never knew it was that early. “Five thirty five” he called his wife Adamma and she answered and he asked her, where are my two daughters and she called out to them Bene, Chidimma, your father is calling both of you and they rushed down to the spot. When they came in, his father said to Chidimma, I am going to work now, do you need any money. She replied “Daddy I am not interested in going to school again” And his father said to her wife “woman did you hear what your daughter is saying?” Her mother replied if she say that she will not go to school again allow her, his father said, so you are the one that is spoiling this child? Her mother answered and said I’m not spoiling her. His father ask Bene what about you and she replied “Our teacher told us to bring some money, how much? The father asked. “She answered with a smile on her face and said five hundred naira, his father opened his wallet and brought out one thousand naira and gave her”. When Bene got to school, they teacher asked her some questions she got it and all the students clapped for her. Then, the teacher asked the other girl named Chidimma some question and she failed it. So, the teacher gave her some strokes of the cane and she wept bitterly. When she got home her mother came out just to see her crying. “Ewo! Ewo!! Ewo!! My daughter why are you crying? Who beat you? Childimma answered and said I couldn’t answer a question in class and her mother replied “Is that the reason why your teacher would beat you up like this? She asked rhetorically, let go and meet that your foolish teacher. So, when they got to their school, her mother started shouting at the top of her voice as if she owned the school. “Foolish teacher or whatever you called yourself why did you beat my daughter? She asked angrily, madam calm down said the teacher in a humbled-like approach. I will not calm down, she quickly said let me warn you for the last time never you lay your dirty hand on my daughter again or else you will see the other side of me. “And you Bene, so you are here and this nonsense happened and you did not say anything and this nincompoop that called herself a teacher laid her hands on your sister, alright you will come back home. After the school has dismissed Bene was thinking on how to go home because she knew that her mother is going to deal with her immediately she comes back. “So she planned on what to do but it did not work out for her”. When she got home after a long thought, she greeted her mother who paid deaf ear to her greetings, her mother quickly shouted with a scolding voice “Bene come back here [with cane on her hand]” have you forgotten what I told you early today in your school. So, Bene at that point had started crying already. Just then their father arrived from work and saw Bene crying, then he said to her, “my daughter why are you crying? She answered and said, “My mummy is angry with me, threaten to deal with me because our teacher flogged Chidimma simply because she could not answer a question in the class. So at that point her father met his wife at the living room asking her why she is threating Bene for on known caused. Mr. Obi instructed his wife never to try it again. A few days later Adamma called her beautiful daughter Chidimma, and told her that since you are not going to school again you have to start hawking some things for me like fruits (apple, mango and guava) in the market. On her way to market a man saw her and he told her that she is beautiful and he would like to marry her. The man requested for her name and address, she gave it to him without hesitation. When she got back home she told her mother that there was a man that asked for her name and address, her mother was very happy about that. A few hours later the man came to her house, Mrs. Adamma, Chidim
