Chapter 1 Chapter 1

As Dorothy Arnold awoke with aches throughout her body, she initially believed she was still dreaming. However, the persistent pain beneath her reminded her that everything from the previous night had truly happened.

Her efforts were not in vain, she finally had him, the man of supreme status who could help her enact her vengeance.

At this thought, she couldn't help but tightly clutch the quilt in her hands.

But how was she to face him later? After all, wasn't she a bit too... forceful with him last night?

Just when Dorothy was thinking so hard she felt her head might burst, there was a clattering noise...

The bathroom door opened, and it was accompanied by the soft sound of footsteps.

Jolted by the sound, Dorothy tensed up and gritted her teeth. Meaning to greet him, she tried to lift her head. Unexpectedly, she was on the couch, and with a bit of a lift, she tumbled right onto the floor.

That wasn't the most embarrassing part. The most embarrassing part was that she rolled twice on the carpet.

The footsteps halted abruptly.

Dorothy stopped as well, ending up right at the man's feet.

"Pfft--"

Hearing the man break into a mocking chuckle, Dorothy wished she could just die there and then.

"What a rush, pretty miss, can't wait to see me, huh? I feel so honored--"

Whose voice was that???

Dorothy suddenly paused, wasn't rumors said that he was cold, a giant iceberg who doesn't court women?

Why does his tone sound so... passionate?

Just when Dorothy was utterly confused, she suddenly felt a void beneath her, which startled her, and she hastily clung onto the neck of the man.

The man held her in a princess carry, looking down from a height, a cheeky smile gracing his lips.

Adam's apple bobbing slightly, he smiled with squinted eyes, "Miss Arnold, did you skip meals at home? You're so light."

That's when Dorothy finally realized something was off. Rumors were that he never has physical contact with anyone. She had spiked his drink last night, otherwise, he wouldn't have let her sleep willingly next to him.

However, after more than ten hours had elapsed, the effect of the drug should have worn off. Why would he voluntarily hold her?

Dorothy certainly didn't believe her charm was that potent!

Furrowing her eyebrows, Dorothy tentatively lifted her head slowly.

First came into view was his alluring Adam's apple, followed by a smooth-lined chin, perfect thin lips, high-bridged nose, playful eyes, and eyebrows slanting into his hair.

Wait... this is... not the man she was expecting!

Who... is he?

Dorothy was so terrified that her heart was trembling.

What she means is, she had gone through so many trials and tribulations to infiltrate this place, using both drugs and seduction, but in the end, are you telling her... she got the wrong man?

In just a few, short seconds, Dorothy experienced what is known as the many phases of life, the sweetness and bitterness of it all.

Taking a deep breath, Dorothy had been trying to prepare herself mentally.

"What the hell, I got bitten by a dog."

"Quack like a duck, quack like a duck."

Her previous life, she had spent over twenty years maintaining her chastity. Yet, after being reborn, in just... two days, she lost that?

Keeping her breath steady, Dorothy raised her hand and patted the shoulder of the man in front of her.

"Excuse me... Sir, could you please put me down. Thank you."

The man seemed interested as he looked at the woman before him. He raised an eyebrow, and then with a forceful push, Dorothy was directly thrown onto the sofa.

With a thud, Dorothy was taken by surprise. When she fell onto the sofa, she felt as if her heart was about to burst out.

Gritting her teeth, Dorothy decided not to lower herself to this petty man.

After all, this guy looks very young. I don't know how old he is, could it be that he's underage?

Considering this, Dorothy broke into a cold sweat on her back.

"So ferocious, miss? You're pretty scary!"

".."

Dorothy was left speechless.

She quickly adjusted herself to a proper sitting position on the sofa, forced a smile, and said, "Well, little brother..."

"Hmm? What did you call me?"

The man sat down next to Dorothy with a smile that wasn't quite a smile, took her hand, and despite her struggles, joyfully stuffed it into his own bath towel.

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
