My best friend said she wanted to see some abs, so she dragged me to the basketball court. As soon as I sat down, a basketball came flying at me, which I caught with one hand. I shot a disdainful smile at the court and casually tossed the ball, which went straight into the hoop. "Hey kids, make sure to hold onto the ball! If you hit the big sisters, you might get a spanking!" One little guy with abs ran over and said, "Sister, can I add you on WhatsApp after the spanking?" Feeling playful, I replied, "You can add me on WhatsApp, but you have to get spanked first." Without thinking, the little guy stuck out his butt and lit up the WhatsApp QR code. That night, I received a WhatsApp message: "You touched my butt, so you're mine. How about being my girlfriend?" I laughed and replied, "Don't fall for me, I'm very expensive!" Unexpectedly, a week later, the head of HR personally brought the little guy to my office: "Manager Shen, he will be your responsibility from now on. Take good care of him!" The little guy loosened his tie and said, "Let's discuss the price."

Chapter 1

My bestie, Melina Nash, said she wanted to see some abs of the men, so she dragged me to the basketball court.

As soon as we sat down, a basketball came flying towards us, and I caught it with one hand.

I sneered contemptuously at the players on the court and then casually tossed the basketball, which landed perfectly in the hoop.

"Hey, men, be careful with the ball! If you accidentally hit us, you'll get a spanking!"

A young man with abs approached and said, "Beautiful lady, if I get spanked, can I add you on Whatsapp?"

I jokingly said on purpose, "Sure, but adding me on Whatsapp means getting more beatings."

Without hesitation, he leaned towards me and flashed his Whatsapp QR code while jutting out his buttocks.

That evening, I received a message on Whatsapp, "Since you touched my ass, I'm yours now. How about I become your boyfriend?"

I laughed, "Don't fall for me, I'm high maintenance!"

Unexpectedly, a week later, the HR manager personally brought the young man to my office and said, "Ms. Dale, he's your subordinate now. Take good care of him!"

The young man loosened his tie, then said, "Let's talk terms, shall we?"

01

A few days ago, there were rumors that the heir of Hall Group was coming to work as a junior employee in the marketing department for some grassroots experience.

Everyone knew it was just a formality, and in a year or so, he'd likely be promoted to the manager of the marketing department.

The marketing department had five teams, and everyone was speculating which team the heir of Hall Group would join. The result would be revealed tomorrow morning.

"That youngster hasn't given up yet. Why don't you accept him?" Melina teased me early in the morning.

I glared at her and said, "Why don't you accept him? Dating a young man isn't my idea of fun."

This all started when Melina insisted on dragging me to the basketball court on the nice Saturday afternoon.

She claimed that she was tired of seeing her husband's pot belly and had forgotten what a man with abs looked like.

That was when the young man with abs latched onto me, flirting with me on Whatsapp every day, asking me to be his girlfriend.

I never thought that I, someone who had never been attracted to men, would end up being pursued relentlessly by a young man.

I must refuse decisively!

I didn't want to be in a childish relationship while dealing with the mess he had made outside.

02

Everyone in the office was excited early in the morning.

"Did you see him? The heir of Hall Group is absolutely stunning!"

"Yeah, he's even more handsome than Mr. Hall. I wish he'd join our team."

"If he joins us, I'd work around the clock!"

I shook my head with a smile and headed straight to my office.

"Demi, Mr. Harding wants to see you in his office."

From Melina's mischievous grin, I already knew the heir of Hall Group had joined my team.

"Hey, stop exaggerating your laughter."

"I can't, I just can't!" Melina's smile grew even brighter.

Then, I was taken aback. The one sitting on the HR manager's office sofa was the persistent young man who had been pestering me.

"Demi, you're here. Let me introduce him to you. This is Mr. Hall's son, Brodie Hall. He's in your team now, take good care of him!"

"Brodie, this is your supervisor, Demi Dale, Ms. Dale."

Brodie smiled happily and extended his hand, "Ms. Dale, nice to meet you."

I managed a weak smile and awkwardly shook his hand, cursing internally. You told me your name was Brodie Hall, but you didn't mention you were Caleb Hall's son!

03

I took him back to my office, locked the door and pulled down the blinds, then asked him bluntly, "What are you doing here?"

"To work, of course." Brodie casually found a chair and sat down, looking up at me obediently.

"Then why do you join my team?"

"Ms. Dale, your performance has always been unmatched. If you had the choice, would you pick someone else?"

That was true. My performance was always something others could only dream of achieving.

Brodie suddenly stood up, loosened his tie at the collarbone, and walked towards me step by step until I was backed against the desk.

"Demi, let's talk terms, shall we?"

"What... what terms?"

He showed me his phone, the screen displaying our chat history.

"I like you, be my girlfriend."

"Don't fall for me, I'm high maintenance!"

I picked up the notebook on the desk and tapped it on his head, "What terms? Let's go to the meeting!"

"Ah, a meeting already? I just got here!"

"Yes, yes, yes, because you are the heir of Hall Group!"

Today was the first day of July, the start of a new week, and the beginning of the second half of the year.

It was a day of meetings, and it didn't end until 7 p.m.

I went back to my office to gather my things and was about to head home.

Then I saw Brodie slouched against the doorframe, "Ms. Dale, mind giving me a ride home?"

"Lucien, let's get a divorce," I said in a peremptory tone that was long overdue, the most decisive farewell to this absurd marriage. We had been married for exactly three years-three years that, for me, were filled with nothing but endless loneliness and torment. For three years, the husband who should have stood by my side through every storm, Lucien Sullivan, had completely disappeared from my life as if he had never existed. He vanished without a trace, leaving me alone to endure this empty, desolate marriage. Today, I finally received his message: "I'm back. Come pick me up at the airport." When I read his words, my heart leapt with joy, and I raced to the airport, thinking that he finally understood my love and was coming back to me. But his cruelty was far worse than I could have ever imagined-he was accompanied by a pregnant woman, and that woman was Carla, my closest and most trusted friend. In that moment, all of my previous excitement, all my hope, and all of our shared laughter and tears turned into the sharpest of daggers, stabbing into my heart and leaving me gasping for air. Now, all I want is to escape from this place that has left me so broken-to lick my wounds in solitude. Even if these wounds will remain with me for the rest of my life, I refuse to have anything to do with him ever again. He should know that it was his own hand that trampled our love underfoot, that his coldness and betrayal created this irreparable situation. But when he heard those words, he desperately clung to this broken, crumbling marriage, unwilling to let it end-almost as though doing so could rewind time and return everything to how it used to be. "Aurora, come back. I regret everything!" Regret? Those simple words stirred no emotion in me-only endless sadness and fury. My heart let out a frantic, desperate scream: It's too late for any of this!
