Chapter 1 1

CHAPTER 1- TEMPORARY BOYFRIEND

Kylie's POV

"Ah, yes! Fuck... That's it."

"Oh, baby! Tell me, do I do it better than Kylie?"

"Don't remind me of her while we are having sex."

My hands which were about to twist the door open stopped midway when I heard the ambiguous noises coming from the bedroom. My weary eyes turned cold, I did not have to think too much to determine who was inside.

My train of thought stopped abruptly when I heard Lisa scream out my boyfriend's name in pleasure as they reached their climax.

After a moment of silence, Lisa asked in a serious tone, "When are you going to break up with her?"

"What's the hurry? Aren't we having enough fun?" Justin replied, his tone as nonchalant as always. His words seemed to have triggered something within the girl as she snapped, "How long do you need to break up with her, Justin? She is just an orphan we picked up from the street. What's so good about her?"

Justin twitched his lips, his words reflected his unwillingness to linger further on this topic. He said, "Babe, do we have to do this now? I am tired."

"No! I can't wait any longer." Lisa dismissed his pleas almost immediately and said, "You have to make your choice right now! It is either me or Kylie."

The corner of my lips curled up in mockery when I heard her words. I was working extra time at the restaurant to save money for her birthday and this was what she had for me in return.

I could not hold myself back anymore and pushed the door, announcing, "Don't make his choose, Lisa. You can have him."

"Kylie?" Justin immediately jumped out of the bed, distancing himself from her. Anger bubbled inside me as I watched the flabbergasted couple try to cover their modesty with the quilt.

Justin hurriedly put on his pants and stumbled towards me, "This is not what it looks like."

"Save it! I am not interested in knowing." Even though I sounded as if his cheating did not affect me, I could hear my heart crumble inside.

I met Justin in junior year, he was one the most popular guys in school because he was on the football team and hailed from a wealthy family.

After courting me for three months, he finally confessed to me on the field, right after they won the season.

He was my first-ever boyfriend and I was genuinely committed to him. I was working part-time at the restaurant, saving money so that we could go to the same college.

I was planning for our life ahead only to be backstabbed by the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

Lisa seemed to have noticed the change in Justin's demeanor. She quickly intervened and said, "The cat is out of the bag now. Justin, you don't have to hide anything anymore. Tell her what you told me just now!"

I replied, "No need for that either, I have heard it already. I don't want him anymore."

The victorious smile on Lisa's face shrunk, she pointed her finger at me furiously and said, "Kylie, stop intimidating him like this. We both know that Justin is too good for you and he was just with you because he is naive. You should not be greedy and aim for something you don't deserve to keep." She turned towards Justin and said, "Babe, tell her that you don't love her anymore. You are too good for her, anyways."

Lisa wanted to put me down but to her surprise, Justin scolded her, "Shut up, Lisa! Stop talking like that to her."

"What?" The girl muttered in disbelief. Before she could say anything, Justin grabbed my hands. He said, "Kylie, please forgive me. I did this on impulse, she has been seducing me since the day we met. This was a mistake."

"Justin, stop." I spoke but he refused to listen to me.

He continued, "I don't know what I was thinking. I promise I won't ever do this again, please just give me a chance."

My eyes clouded with disgust when I watched the usually proud Justin, begging me. But unfortunately for him, I was not the kind who believed in second chances.

With a layer of frost dusted on my tone, I said, "Justin, this is not gonna work. Let's break up!"

"What is all this fuss about?" Hannah Wade, my adoptive mother, came bragging inside, fastening her robe. She was trying to get some sleep but was disturbed by the heated argument outside.

"Lisa! What the hell are you doing?" Her soul left her body when she saw her naked daughter on the bed. She noticed a shirtless Justin and understood what was going on.

She asked, "Are you out of your mind? You are engaged! Why are you fooling around with another man?"

Lisa was set to be married to Tony Jackson against her will. He was a disabled man with a disfigured look, no one would have married him if not for the huge prize money that came along with him.

I was sympathetic towards her until now...

Lisa's eyes pooled with tears as she hugged herself protectively. She muttered, "I don't want to get married..."

"Are you out of your damn mind? All the arrangements are done, we can't step back now." Hannah clenched her fist. The Jacksons were very powerful and it was the Wade family's only chance to climb the social ladder. The Jacksons would surely not forgive them if they found out about Lisa's infidelity.

The girl, however, had a plan of her own. She looked into her eyes and said, "You can't force me to marry anyone else because I am pregnant."

"What?" Her words caused the middle-aged to gasp. A ray of light gleamed within Lisa's eyes as she vigorously nodded her head and announced, "I am pregnant with Justin's child. You have to cancel the wedding."

Justin was shocked when he heard her words, he immediately shook his head and said, "I have only slept with her twice. There is no way she could be pregnant!"

I turned away, refusing to listen to him but his words did affect Lisa.

She broke down in tears and said, "Justin, what are you saying? I am pregnant with your child and this is how you react to the news? If you don't trust me, you can come to the hospital with me. We can get a test, will that be enough to make you believe in me?"

"No, I..." Justin opened his mouth to say something but was cut down by Hannah. She said, "The Jacksons will destroy our whole family if they find out about this. We can't call off the marriage."

"I am sorry, mother. I know what I did was foolish but I love Justin! I want to have this baby." Lisa said through her tears.

Hannah looked at her daughter; even though she had pushed her off the cliff, she was still her daughter. After much thought, she looked at me and said, "Kylie, you are also the daughter of the Wade family. Why don't you marry Tony in your sister's place?"

I was taken aback by her words, how could she push me in front of the bus?

I said, "Are you out of your mind, mother? I don't want to get married."

"Yes! She can't marry anyone else, I won't allow it." Justine chimed in, making my mother frown. She said, "You cheated on her and then got my daughter pregnant. You have long lost the right to have any say in this."

Justine gritted his teeth, he was having a hard time believing that he was kicked off his pedestal.

I watched the whole scene unfold in disbelief, who were they to decide my life for me?

I interrupted them and said, "You can't always expect me to clean up your daughter's mess, mother. I am not marrying Tony and you can't make me do it against my will."

I didn't even want to stay under the same roof as them anymore. I stormed out of the house and went to a bar where I knew I could find some booze.

I was in a terrible mood and even the alcohol down my throat wasn't helping me. I know my mother, even though she raised me all these years, she favors Lisa more than me. She would find a way or another to force me into this marriage.

My clench on the glass tightened, I had to find a way out of this.

That was when I saw a familiar face not too far away.

The person was wearing a casual black shirt, paired with black pants. His eyes were emerald green with chocolate locks falling aimlessly on his forehead.

Sitting alone in one of the couches and helping himself with a glass of whisky, he looked like a king who owned the whole world.

I stopped drinking and stared at his perfectly chiseled face illuminated by the fancy bar lighting. He was Elijah Crawford, the captain of the football team.

"What is he doing here all alone?" I wondered.

Elijah was the most popular guy in school, often surrounded by a bunch of fangirls throwing themselves at him. I was not close with him, even my impression of him was pretty bad. So I rolled my eyes and initially wanted to ignore him when suddenly, an idea lit up in my head.

If I manage to find a temporary boyfriend, I can both avoid marrying Tony and get back at Justin for cheating on me. Who would be a better candidate for this other than his captain himself?

I got up from my seat and adjusted my looks a bit before making my way towards him.

"Hey, there." I greeted him with a smile.

He lifted his tipsy, green eyes and looked at me; his thin lips parted to ask, "Who are you?"

"My name is Kylie Wade. You might not know me but we go to the same school."

"What do you want?"

I took this opportunity to sit down next to him and said, "I saw that you were alone and thought that you could use some company."

He scanned me from up and down, indifference clouding his face, "Why do you think I would need your company?"

"Are you sure?" I encircled my finger around the rim of the whisky glass on the table and sucked it suggestively. Looking into his eyes, I said in a seductive tone, "I can show you some good times tonight."
