Chapter 1 Back Home

Upon arriving in AJ City, Nancy frowned, not understanding why her parents had asked her to return home.

She had previously been studying in City X, and after graduating with a degree in business administration, her father had clearly told her, “Nancy, I want you to return home and not stay in City X.”

Nancy frowned during the phone call with her father. She knew that her father was a politician in AJ City, and she couldn't go against his orders. So, she arrived at the airport at exactly 2pm, and her father's men were already there waiting to escort her home.

“Welcome home, Nancy,” her older adopted brother, Matthew Marlon, smiled at her. However, Nancy frowned as she walked with him to the car.

She sat in the back seat of the car, knowing that the city was ruled by the popular President Nolan Alejandro and his family. The city was named after the Alejandro family. They had been ruling for years, and any opposition party that tried to oppose them was immediately silenced.

Nancy watched the road as Matthew started the car engine and drove away from the airport. Her eyes fell on the gigantic billboard displaying the city president's photos too.

''Hmm…'' Nancy hummed, seeing Matthew smiling at her through the rearview mirror.

She ignored his smile, continuing to wonder why her parents had insisted that she must return home.

Upon arriving home, the security men at her father's mansion gate pulled the huge black gate open for them. Nancy watched as Matthew drove his black exotic SUV into the premises and parked.

She saw her parents standing at the mansion frontage. Her mother was wearing a red gown, and her father stood in his black suit. The maids also stood behind her parents, dressed in their blue uniforms.

Nancy stepped out of the car and walked up to the mansion frontage to meet her parents, wearing a red top and black trousers with her black high-heeled shoes.

As Nancy approached the mansion front, her mother wholeheartedly welcomed her, “Welcome home, my beautiful angel.”

“Good afternoon, Mom, Dad.” Nancy smiled as she hugged her mother, and her father finally said to her, “Welcome home, Nancy. Good to finally have you at home with us.”

“Thanks, Dad,” Nancy replied, still hugging her mother, and the maids said to her, “Welcome home, Nancy.”

“Thank you all,” Nancy smiled at the maids, and her mother said, “Let's all go inside.”

“Okay, Mom,” Nancy replied and finally walked into the living room with her mother.

She saw that their living room hadn't changed, still painted in white with beautiful flower vases around.

Nancy walked up to a black couch in the living room, which had seven black couches in total.

“Home, sweet home,” she whispered as she finally sat down on one of the black couches.

She saw her mother standing there in the center of the living room, smiling sweetly at her.

“Mom, what's the good news? You look so excited to see me,” Nancy asked, becoming curious about the reason behind her mother's bright smile. Her mother was the epitome of beauty, still looking under forty despite being 51 years old.

Mrs. Olivia Marlon smiled and finally sat down on the black couch. She replied, “Why wouldn't I be excited to see you, Nancy? You've changed, and you look even more beautiful now than when you left the city five years ago.”

''Thanks, Mom, but I'm still the same,'' Nancy replied, smiling sweetly at her mother. She knew that her mother was right; she had changed since she left the city five years ago to further her studies abroad. Her body had matured, and she was now a charming young lady.

Nancy knew how most people that passed by her would pause and stare back at her, as she looked so adorable now.

She also knew that her mother loved calling her an angel because of her sharp pointed nose, blue sparkling eyes, and long golden hair, which was the most attractive of her features.

“Mom, I need to go upstairs now and freshen up. Then I'll come back downstairs to join you and Dad for dinner,” Nancy said as she finally stood up from the couch.

“Okay, my dear,” Mrs. Olivia Marlon replied, unable to stop admiring her daughter. She thought about telling Nancy about the arranged marriage with the president's son, but decided that could wait.

Nancy smiled and walked upstairs to her bedroom. Approaching her bedroom door, she pushed it open and entered her room.

Like the living room, her room hadn't changed either. It was still painted in pink and adorned with beautiful flower vases.

Nancy walked up to her room window to pull the curtains open. She noticed some black cars arriving. Three black cars drove into her father's mansion and parked.

Nancy saw some men in black suits exit the car at the back, and they walked up to the car at the front and pulled the car door open.

Nancy saw a man in a black suit and a red shirt step out of the car. When their eyes met, she immediately looked away and shut her room curtains.

Next, Nancy went to her bathroom to strip off her clothes and take a bath before joining her parents for dinner.

She removed her red top and black trousers, then stepped into her bathroom to bathe.

A few hours later, Nancy stepped out of her bathroom wrapped in a long white towel. She sat on her bed to apply lotion to her body.

She had really missed her family when she was in City X, and she decided to look for a new job in AJ City. Since she was already home, she wouldn't be going back to City X anytime soon.

Nancy sat on her bed, opened her bedside drawer, and took out her body lotion.

Afterward, she picked up her television remote and switched it on. She saw photos and videos of their city President being displayed on her television screen.

Increasing the television volume, Nancy heard the reporter state, “Good evening, citizens of AJ City. I bring to you the 4 p.m. news. President Nolan Alejandro has just won the recently concluded election today, scoring over 50 million votes…”

Nancy frowned, disliking the Alejandro family. She immediately switched off her television, knowing that the Alejandro family had been ruling for a long time and didn't want another family to rule.

She knew that her father was also a politician and worked under the AJ Political party group. She sighed, deciding not to worry about politics.

Moreover, she didn't like the luxurious lifestyle that her family lived. She wanted a simple life for herself, her future husband, and their children. She didn't like the security men who had been following her around every minute and second since her return to the city.

Nancy finished applying lotion to her body and stood up from the bed to search for clothes to wear.

She walked into her closet and took out a short brown gown. The gown hugged her body tightly, accentuating her figure.

Nancy smiled and walked back to her room mirror. Holding her long white towel in her right hand, she used it to dry her wet, long golden hair.

She was a politician's daughter, raised to always look cute. Noticing the time was still after 4 p.m., she wished she knew the reason her parents had asked her to return home. She would have preferred to not be there.
