Chapter 1 Republic of Narz

It was a nice evening, one that Clinton liked. The rain drizzled, pouring lightly on his skin. He cherished the feeling, as he closed his eyes to the cool breeze that caressed his soft skin.

His mother's voice interrupted his thoughts, "Clinton are you done watering the plants?"

" Yes, I'm coming. Mum, you need to get a pesticide, pests are eating up our crops."

" I will do that when I get to the pest control shop. Come in now, dinner is ready."

He went to the bathroom to wash his hands and walked to the kitchen. They usually have their meal in the kitchen when his dad isn't at home.

" The food smells nice and the weather is pleasant. The environment is so tranquil." seized by a sneeze. " Yummy!" He said to compliment his mother.

Whenever he asks his mum " Why?" Her answer will always be that eating in the dining is fun when eating as a family.

" I will be next door with the twins and their mother. She called." His mother said while packing the dishes.

" Yes, Mrs Adams. I'll be in the study. I have an assignment to complete." He said. Unlike every other child, Clinton prefers calling his mother by her husband's name and his mother likes it.

"Good boy. See you later."

Walking briskly out of the kitchen where he dumped the dishes, the telephone rang. He rushed towards the telephone and grabbed it with excitement. " Hello, Dad?" Shuffling of feet, low voices in the background. A feminine voice came through. A look of confusion, disappointment and worry spread over his face.

" What happened to my dad?"

" Is this Clinton?"

" Yes. Please tell me what happened, how is my dad?" The line disconnected, and he dropped the telephone in frustration. It was a call from his father's workplace, he couldn't help but feel concerned. It was unusual to receive such calls at an odd hour like that to start with, " What?... A feminine voice? " His mind became restless as he kept imagining different scenarios. While he patiently waited for the mysterious caller to call back, he slept off.

The alarm beeps. " It's morning again." he sighed. His effort to remember how he got to his room and lay on his bed was futile. He shook the thought off. It isn't a new thing, how could he remember when he is a deep sleeper? Clinton rushed down the stairs to the living room and found a note from his mom on the table.

" ʏᴏᴜʀ ғᴏᴏᴅ ɪs ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴅɪɴɪɴɢ ᴛᴀʙʟᴇ. ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴅᴀᴅ ᴄᴀʟʟᴇᴅ, ʜᴇ sᴀɪᴅ ʜᴇ ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʙᴇ ʙᴀᴄᴋ sᴏᴏɴ. ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴀ ɴɪᴄᴇ ᴅᴀʏ ɪɴ sᴄʜᴏᴏʟ..."

𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆, 𝑴𝒖𝒎.

" She left early today," he murmured. He shut the door and walked out.

" Hey, bro." His childhood buddy, Andrew called him. He didn't make an effort to look in his friend's direction. So, Andrew walked fast to catch up with his friend, and they walked together to school.

" It's lunchtime. I'm famished." His friend complained immediately it was lunchtime. Lunchtime is always 1 pm. He was hungry because out of anger he had left his food on the dining table without touching it still, and he felt reluctant to go. He isn't a foodie and he can go on twenty-four hours without food. " You can go on. I'm not hungry." He replied to his friend who wouldn't stop hanging on him like a bat. They have been best friends to the bone marrow.

" Let's go together to the canteen." urged Andrew

" I'm okay," Clinton replied trying to persuade his friend to go alone. His stomach grumbled. " Okay. My breadbasket has rebelled against me, let's go." The stomach never lies when it comes to food, it did a good job in revealing with Clinton was trying to hide.

Smiles... " You can never deprive the stomach," Andrew said while pushing him towards the door.

Chuckles... " You are right, bro," Clinton said looking away.

Walking in pairs, chatting along. As school dismissed. " Have you heard?" asked Andrew to break the silence between them, while walking home.

" What?" interrogated Clinton uninterested.

" Cordilla is back! " Said the almost screaming Andrew.

His heart nearly hopped out of his chest. " Cor... back..erm..." Clinton was lost. His high school sweetheart is back just at the time he was about to forget her. Her. Cordilla broke his heart. He began sweating, the mention of her name made his heart weak. His heart was still vulnerable.

" I think we should take a taxi home. I'm weak." He said leaning on Andy.

" Okay."

They boarded a taxi home. What he heard was like a nightmare. He couldn't focus. With Cordilla his heart often disobeys. The scar hasn't healed.

" Who told you about her arrival and what is she here for? "He asked out of curiosity.

" I heard from my mum," He paused. " that she is here as a freshman at our uni."

" You are kidding right now." He said sounding bitter.

" She had always wanted to school abroad, what is she doing here?"

" I'm stunned as well. You should ask her yourself."

" I don't want to ask her, and I won't believe it either. I won't." Clinton replied angrily
