Chapter 1 Guests from Wesley City

Haydn City, the Brown family.

Anne Brown had just finished a set of oral English questions in her study, and the phone by her desk vibrated nonstop.

She picked up the phone, and there were more than twenty unread messages inside.

"Anne, I didn't hold back today... I'm sorry!"

"Anne, I have nothing to do with Lucy. I like you!"

"Anne, just call me back, okay?"

........

Bruce was Lucy's boyfriend in college. She had met him a few times at dinner with her aunt and uncle.

Today was the anniversary of her father's death. Her mother's legs were broken and her uncle was not home, so she was planning to go to the cemetery by herself.

Bruce came over to get something for Lucy. He said it was on his way and took the initiative to send her over.

But when she reached the parking lot, he suddenly stopped her and said he liked her while leaning in to kiss her.

She resisted but he just wouldn't let her off.

Thinking of this, Anne couldn't help but feel nauseous. She deleted the message with a single click and then pulled him directly into the blacklist.

She came out of the study and headed to the guest room at the end of the corridor.

Her father died unexpectedly five years ago, and her mother lost both of her legs and become ill.

She was only twelve years old at the time. She was not capable of inheriting the family business, so Uncle James took over the company.

She looked at the two guest bedrooms at the end of the corridor, and she was in trance.

After Uncle James took over her father's company, he took Aunt Kate and Lucy into the villa.

She and her mother moved from the master bedroom to the guest bedroom. They had been depending on others for living

Anne was holding a book and passing the stairs when suddenly there was a loud slamming sound from downstairs.

Slam.

"Anne, you come out here!"

It was Lucy's voice.

Anne didn't move or make a sound.

Wow.

The sound of a vase shattering came from the living room downstairs. "Anne, you're pretending to be dead, aren't you? I'm going to count to one, two, and three. If you don't get down here, I'm going to smash all these bottles your dad bought!"

"How dare you!"

"This is my home. What do I dare not do??"

Anne looked at her. "This is my home too."

"Your home? Oh! When you and your mother were in desperate straits, it was my Dad who took you in with a good heart. You took yourself seriously after living here for so long!"

Anne's hand gradually tightened, but her voice was as soft as ever, "This house was bought by my father after he founded Fido Company. This is my home!"

When Lucy received the news of Bruce's request to break up, she was so furious that she didn't even bother to change her slippers. So it was in a mess.

Compared to the gentle face of Anne, she was like a shrew.

Just then, the door to the master bedroom opened. Aunt Kate came out of it with her cat in her arms.

"What's the yelling, no rules!"

As soon as Lucy heard Kate Martin's voice, she immediately changed her grieving face and jumped into Kate's arms with a sad face.

"Mom, Bruce is breaking up with me because of her...because of her!"

Kate Martin glanced at Anne's face, "Is there such a thing?"

Lucy nodded vigorously and waited with a smug face for Kate to give her a head start.

Anne quickly shook her head, "Aunt Kate, it wasn't like this..."

Kate frowned and walked to the guest room at the end of the corridor. Lucy's chin tilted up like a swan and she raised her head with a smug face and followed.

Anne raised her eyes to the guest room, she was suddenly nervous!

Today was the anniversary of my father's death. No one was to disturb her mother, let alone because of this mess!

Anne scrambled to catch up and stopped them, "What are you guys doing?"

"What? It is your mother's fault. You're shamelessly seducing Lucy's boyfriend, and I'm going to talk to Mary! Let's see if she's the mother who misbehaved herself and incidentally taught her daughter all the way."

Kate's words vilified her mother, and Anne suddenly became fierce. "You guys, don't talk nonsense, it's obvious that Bruce harassed me."

"Harassing you? The White family was the gentry in Haydn City. What you are that the White family wants to harass you?"

Anne laughed in anger. "Yes, I'm indeed nothing, but why did Bruce have to come to me after letting go of a woman with such an honorable status as my elder sister? Does that mean she was nothing compared to me?

Lucy couldn't accept this fact. What was she inferior to Anne?

She was the lady of the Brown family!

Regardless of what the Brown family used to be, all of this was now hers!

Anne was just a poor family with nothing!

So what if Bruce liked her, the White family wouldn't approve of her if they had brains!

She rushed forward and slapped her hard across the face before Anne could react!

Anne's face, which specialized in confusing men, she had wanted to hit!

"I've heard that your mother is a bad woman, she tried to climb into my father's bed right after he died. She didn't even look at herself. Why would my dad be interested in a cripple? Now you've got me again! You are the same with your mother, and you're both sluts who sleep with a thousand people!"

Anne covered her face, and a trace of blood seeped out of the corner of her mouth.

She turned back to her face, and her cold gaze stared at Kate and Lucy.

Kate was also a bit uncomfortable by her stare. She pointed at her nose and continued to scold her, "What are you looking at? Did I say something wrong? I could have been out there when your mother climbed into your uncle's bed in the first place..."

She didn't finish her sentence, but suddenly the door of the guest bedroom opened heavily from inside.

Mary pushed her wheelchair out from inside and looked coldly at Kate and her daughter.

"Anne, come here."

Kate was also protecting Lucy and brought her behind. She raised her head high and she was even more arrogant, "Mary, you have raised a good daughter, and she has learned all your foxy tricks. What? You're unhappy that you couldn't climb into James's bed, so you let Anne inherit your idea and seduce Bruce, hoping to rise to the top and turning into a phoenix?"

Mary's face was chill. She was unhappy and turned her head to look at Anne. Anne's face was slightly red and she was as stubborn as ever, but she still endured the aggravation.

"Are you okay, Anne?"

"Mom, I'm fine."

Mary nodded and turned to Kate and her daughter. She pondered a moment and pushed the wheelchair forward, "Kate, even if the company is controlled by James now, don't forget that everything will be returned to its rightful owner when Anne was eighteen. I won't hold you responsible for your evil words to Anne tonight, but you need to get out of the house right now!"

"Get out?"

The cat in Kate's bosom instantly jumped away. She leaned forward, "Mary, don't think I don't know what you did with James! The elder brother has been dead for five years. You're lonely and seduced James. Don't think you can sleep with him and......

Mary hit her face with a string of rosary beads before Kate finished.

Kate screamed out of control on the spot, and she grabbed Mary's clothes and pushed her down with her wheelchair with one hard kick.

"Mom, Mom."

Anne hurriedly ran down the stairs. Mary lay there in dizziness, "I, I'm fine, Anne, don't be afraid."

Nothing else could be seen other than a wound on the forehead soaked in blood. Anne helped Mary to sit up in great distress, "Mom, Mom."

Kate went down the stairs slowly and stared them coldly, "want to drive me out, delusional."

Anne bounced up like an angry little beast, but Mary held her back, "Anne."

A maid came in from the door. She took a look and pointed out the door, "Lady, there is a visitor."

"Who is that? Drive away."

The maid was startled and mumbling, "it's... it's a guest from Wesley City."

A guest from Wesley City, and at this time?

Before Kate could react, footsteps were already sounded at the doorway. A shadow came through the darkness.

Wilson Kennedy walked in. His eyes were solemn and sharp as he saw what was happening at the entrance of the building.

"Sister-in-law."

He leaned up three or two steps to assist Mary back into the wheelchair. His movements were quick and agile but restrained and polite.

Mary held her hair and smiled, "You're here, sorry to trouble you."

Wilson Kennedy stepped back and he glanced over Anne, who pursed lips and had grievances and reluctance in her heart. He was a smart man, and it was not difficult for him to guess what just happened without asking.

His frowned and his eyes became sharp.

Hearing the conversation between Wilson and Mary, Kate understood the relationship between them. She was afraid because the man was from the Wesley City

"What is this gentleman's name?"

Wilson stood under the lamp with a handsome black coat. His sharp eyes swept over Kate and her daughter, and he withdrew his gaze after a moment.

"Sister-in-law, I'll send you to the hospital first."

Mary nodded and pulled Anne's cold little hand, and she soothed her with a smile, "Let's go, Anne."

Anne pursed her lips and turned around to push the wheelchair. Wilson followed them and rubbed her head at the door. She looked sideways and Wilson smiled gently.

She quickly withdrew her gaze and her fingers on the wheelchair suddenly tightened.

She had an inexplicably familiar feeling with the man, but she couldn't remember where she had seen such a handsome and good-looking face.

They came out of the villa. There was a black Range Rover Evoque parked outside the courtyard, and its lights were as bright as day. Mary looked at the dark sky and then sighed.

"Anne, this is your father's...comrade, Wilson Kennedy."

November, the wind in Haydn City was very cold. She shrank down her eyes and nodded lovingly, "You, hello Uncle Kennedy."

Wilson pursed his lips without words and thoughtfully rubbed his fingertips.

His eyes were very cold. He was a comrade in arms, and uncle? This was a deliberate attempt to establish seniority here. It had been five years, Mary was still so stubborn.

The passenger door opened. Leon greeted and glanced over them, "Mr. Kennedy."

The Land Rover was spacious, and it was still comfortable for three people to sit in the back seat.

Mary sat on the left side and Anne was next to her. Wilson sat on the right side, and there was an empty seat between them

It was quiet inside the car. Anne was staring at Mary's hand with all her heart. The shadow outside the window was like a walking light. Anne's pale face was projected on the car window. She was biting her lip in self-reproach, and she was tearful and frustrated.

Wilson just sat on one side and did not intervene, but the corner of his eyes stared straight at the reflection of the car window.

Mary hugged Anne in her arms before she looked over, and she met Wilson's eyes unexpectedly.

They looked at each other without saying a word, but it was not peace in their hearts.
